Fantastic band mate!  :y

Like everyone else has said, it doesn't sound like you head gasket at all.

Heater problem sounds like the HBV is always on. Should be an easyish fix.

As for the water leak. My V6 sometimes leaks a small amount of water, I just check it every few weeks, and maybe stick a cup full of antifreeze in if needed. I've never found the leak, and 'think' its leaking from the oil cooler cover plate, its a bit fiddly to get to, so i've left it for now.  ;D My guess is yours could be a similar kind of leak. Basically, the speed which mine leaks, the water just evaporates without trace!  ;D (Must admit, it seems to have sealed itself at the moment!  ::))

i posted a question on Yahoo before i posted on here, yes!  silly i know!

some geezer just posted this, but i didn't listen because i know you guys know what your talking about!

the heating issue is No relation to your head gasket
(unless Vauxhall has some strange scheme going on no one else does - not likely!).
Heat comes from hot coolant from your motor going through a heater core which is where your hot air comes from. No heat means your controls are buggered (the control cable is broken or heater valve is broke or something) or your heater core is clogged or the hoses from your motor to the heater core are pinched or something. NOT your head gasket.

Head gasket problems will give you -
(1) Sludgy Milky Oil.
(2) Bubbles in your radiator - open the cap, unexplained bubbles are a sign (and a good shop can use a sensor to see if it's exhaust gas).
(3) Steam or smoke out the tailpipe.
(4) Missing on one (or more) cylinder.
(5) Hard starting.
(6) oil or water leakage from the head/block separation line down the side (or front or back) of your motor. But NOT cold air from the heater.

Find another shop. And always ASK how they know what the problem is. A good mechanic will tell you. A bad one won't.
Further, ask to have (or at least see) the old parts - so you can see that there *was* a blown gasket (and not one he tore to look blown - you can tell!) and that it confirms the symptom.

BTW - General Motors products *do* have a history of bad head gasket (and head warpage) problems *if* the car was overheated.
So, you *might* have a bad head gasket, but it's NOT related to your heater. Get a second (or 3rd) opinion!! Good luck!

The vacuum hose you refer to (I guess), is the control to the three way plastic valve behind the engine. By removing it, you have now allowed the valve to let water through to the matrix.

The V6's do tend to leak a small amount of water from the heads after large mileage which isn't necessarily serious but I'm betting they did a block test to lead them to their diagnosis.
This involves "sniffing" the coolant with a certain liquid that turns from blue to green/yellow when it picks up combustion gases in the water. This is pretty much clear cut and they would be 100% right to assume one or both head gaskets have failed, sorry!
If so, you'll be getting excess pressure by now in the coolant bottle (pressurised after only a minute when started from cold).
Are you losing much water, if any?
They can suffer with leaks from the coolant bridge sealing washers (under the inlet manifold/plenum chamber).

If you have a head gasket failure, it's time to work out whether or not the car is worth repairing because it is a huge job. In fact it is probably easier on the Omega to remove the motor and do it. If you're happy to top it up regularly, you might be better off using it until it gives up altogether.

WHAT A LOAD OF OLD BALLS!

i`m off out in me car now, happy driving!  lol

just come back from Nottingham, another 230 miles covered in me car

have to check coolant every morning, i am finding i`m needing to top it up about 3 inches per day.. did it this morning when i left Travelodge before i headed back to Oxford

she still drives fine, though doesn't feel as nippy as normal..
probably as i had half a music shop in the back of it! lol

if i have this leak, i was thinking of trying some "Wynns" product in the coolant tank to close the leak, if this stuff actually works?

I think Wynns type stuff does work mate, but dont expect it to plug a big hole in the system cos it wont !!!

Worth a crack anyway.......

not yet matey, i thought it might be a cracked pipe somewhere in the coolant system, which i cant see, EVEN when i get underneath the front of the car

3 inches a day is alot. It may not work. Stop leak formulas are last resort as there is a risk of blocking your coolent system, esp if there is another problem you dont know about, like if someone has run it on water in the past and its a bit furred up.

Change the hbv, or gets it changed and go from there. There are other possible areas that can leak but the hbv is most common, easiest and cheapest option. If a stop leak was the best option we would all telling you to do that instead. We're not.

Change the Hbv mate. :-)

I was gonna drive up to someones house on here, but i forgot who it was, lol

they were gonna help me do the vac solenoid and HBV

would the coolant loss be because of the HBV then matey?

Wayne. Ffs calm down. Why didnt you ask on here how to change it?
Thats a very long winded version. You only need remove the scuttle imho. The rest is a battle with a pair of molegrips or pliers or what ever you have.

Just read all 11 pages on this topic as I had the same problem, except my heater now doesnt work at all! It worked on and off for months and I did nothing except put a coat on when drining. Ive paid the price and it died just before the snow came. My car is the same year and model, Ive learnt loads by reading all this. I will ask my question in a new topic.  Im a newbie!!! I cant help with anything technical but hope you get it sorted soon x

I don't think that Wynns, Radweld etc will help at all if it is the HBV (or assiociated hose ) that is leaking.   Did you try shining a torch on it.  Should be prettty obvious if it has been leaking - you'll see brownish deposits.
