2 main things cause limp mode, gearbox, or cam sensor.

Most likely its the cam sensor, can you get the codes read?

Update your profile with your location, someone near you may have tech2

Cam sensor is not expensive, think its around £60ish? can't remember.

Easy as pie to replace, go for genuine part, pattern have had a poor history for this.

Get codes read before you go replacing parts though  :y

Cam sensor is around 60 pounds.
you must buy original part, aftermarket ones don't work on 2.2

car could  work normally from time to time.
But it is 10 minute work to change the cam sensor if that is wrong.
See if anyone can get the codes read first.
How many miles has the car got on clock?

Cam sensor either works or it doesn't, like i say you need to read the codes. Cam sensor is just one possible cause, the gearbox could be giving a code causing same symptoms.

Closest tech2 to you is Brackley (NN13)

Do you have a laptop? Can get a 'cheapo' tech2 off eBay

Well cam sensor usually lasts around 100 000 or a little more so it probably is dead.
Can you check on service history has it been changed anytime in the past?
