Well changed the HBV on the Estate today and I've got the scars to prove it - just over the hour (I take my hat off to Jimbob with his 15 minutes!!).  Bl**dy awkward thing to get at even with skuttle off - b*gger to get the hose clips moved back and also a b*gger to get the pipes off the old one (welded on?)

Fitting new one much quicker, top up water, allow to bleed and test run - all ok so far!!

depends on your tool of choice imo, and that depends on the type of clips your car has, pre face lifts have clips with a tab on each end, my face lifts has a tab on one end only. As if it was not awkward enough.

Changed my HBV last week to a brand new VX part, (total novice as a mechanic), but I just followed  the excellent instructions in the Maint Guide section. Took me about 2 .5 hours with the odd tea break. I removed the scuttle but even then access is still restricted to the HBV. Skinned a few knuckles, back aches and the occasional swear word but overall dead chuffed to get it fixed especially as it was freezing cold day.  :-)

They shouldn't - those spring clips are used for a reason (besides cost and manufacture process)!

I always just use molegrips on them.

Takes me around 30 mins, most of that is removing and refitting scuttle.

Also use molegrips Jaime - just these ones are a bugger to get at.

I'm quite good (quick) at removing skuttles now - if I'd known You only take twice as long as Jimbob to change HBV on a V6, I'd have popped over to see you !!   ;) ;)

Draper 89793. Or Laser do something very similar. I bought the Laser version from GSF when I was working on SWMBO's Golf for about £35.
