Petrol Leak
« on: 28 May 2010, 10:06:43 »

My 2002 V6 2.6 omega has got a petrol leak - well it certainly smells of it. When I put the heater on, the smell blows into the car. If I wind down the window when in traffic I can smell it as well. When I open the bonnet I can also smell it but its really difficult to accertain where its coming from. I've just had a service with new plugs which meant the plenum was removed and the 2 petrol pipes had to be disconnected. Are there 'o' rings in these connections to ensure a good seal?  Any other areas I could look at?

There is an inspecton plate in the boot you can check for leaks.

they often corrode, which could cause your smell.

As I've had a few drops of fuel on my driveway plus smell from the car, I've checked mine too. Oh boy, it was rusted to pieces  ;D
It's about a year since I changed my fuel pump and the cover was tight (but somewhat rusty) then.

Thanks for reminding me of this  :)

By the way: is your covers made of plastic or metal? Mine is all metal, but the pictures in the mentioned thread looks like plastic.

The smell is definitely coming from the engine bay. I wish it was from the back end of the car as I wouldn't have to drive along with the windows open to get rid of the smell. Could it be a problem with the injectors?
