James comes out...... of his shell
« on: 21 January 2008, 01:37:12 »

...

Although as with everyone I'm sure I have my faults, I am usually very placid and laid back. I've never gone looking for trouble, and I always prefer to discuss things, than argue / fight.

But tonight I lost my rag, big style  :-X

On the way home from Daventry, we called in a BP service garage, for a few essentials. There was a man at the till, holding up all the customers, who was shouting at the young girl behind the checkout. Couldn't really work out what his problem was at first, and he was "f'ing" and "b'ing" at her like there was no tomorrow.

From listening to his shouting, I worked out that he had filled his (06 plate) VW TDi up with "BP Ultimate" diesel, rather than normal diesel. He was claiming that he didn't know there were different types of diesel, and that he felt it was unfair he should be charged a "higher price" for ultimate, when he didn't know what he was filling up with.

He said "I'm f'ing tired, it's f'ing dark, and I cannot be expected to see what labels you put on the f'ing pumps".

Whilst I had no interest in his petty complaint about wrongly putting a premuim fuel in his car, I was brought up properly, and I was becoming increasingly wound up by the foul language and manner in which he was talking to the girl serving at the counter.

Enough became enough, and I tapped him on the shoulder and said nicely "Excuse me sir, the young lady you are swearing at is not at all responsible for you choosing the wrong fuel, and there is no need to talk to her in that manner".

He then turned on me - "it's none of your f'ing business mate - you don't understand - fuel costs are so high already I'm going to have to emigrate etc etc...."

He then turned back to the girl serving the fuel, calling her a "foreign s**g" etc..

The girl was getting rather uncomfortable, and no other beggar in the shop was prepared to help her out, so to cut a long story short, things became a little confrontational, and I told the man that if he didn't shut up, pay for his fuel now and leave, he would be picking his teeth up off the floor  ::)  ;D

Thankfully, with alot of muttering he paid and left. Don't think I've ever been in a situation like that in my adult life, ( I didn't enjoy it).. but I guess I was just bought up with some decency, and couldn't stand by and watch that...  especially when the poor kid is probably only being paid the minimum wage!

Never ceases to amaze me how many people think that if they throw a wobbler they will get  their own way, no matter how ludicrous their demands.
Reminds me of a spoilt toddler having a tantrum on the supermarket floor cos mum won't but em any sweets.
Hopefully he will get reported for his actions and maybe learn that being such a fool and abusing staff is unacceptable especially when it's his own stupid fault.
I'm sure the poor girl was very greatful for your help.
Well done James.

I agree 100%

I had an experience recently when I was with swmbo visiting a friend of hers in Dundee. We were returning home from a lovely night out at the dancing, (not a lot of alcohol was consumed), when I heard a female scream for help. I stopped the 3 of us and had a look around, as I did this I saw a young lady's face being slammed into the window of a bus shelter by the young man she was with. (they were inside, we were outside around 100yds away) Now, being brought up properly, I ran up to help, as I arrived, the young chap turned from his partner and went for me.

Er, no.

I did a stint performing close protection for a film company a while back on a film called the jacket.  I restrained him and tried to reason with him in order to calm him down. He was not for having that and kicked out at his female partner. I then put him to the ground and kept him restrained until the police arrived.

The point of my story is this.  When the police got there, his female partner, with blood running from her face, shouted I attacked him, and his manager would sort everything out.

Manager?

Yep, one of Dundee United's 1st team.

The officers knew exactly who he was, so thanked me, and asked me to move along saying that they would take care of him.

I do not, nor do i, want to know what they meant.
I just hate people like this footballer who have excessive ego's and think they are better than everyone else, and can therefore get away with anything they want.

Anywho, rant over.  :)

Well pretty sure theres a few more folk like him around, have came acroos quite a few over the years, where men have attempted abusing and beating their wifes, and other things. However on two occasions when I have went to help people out I ended up in the nick, and one was for a 19 hour stint, so lately when it comes to helping folk out I really consider the risk before taking any action ::)

 :y good on you James......

No one deserves to be sworn at, especially someone who is innocent of the issue.

It was his fault he picked the wrong pump, he also continued to fill the car with fuel, had he looked at the nozzel it told him what product he was buying, no sympathy whatsoever for him.

i have no time for people who bully like that.

Well done for this - it amazes me how many people will stand by and let things like this go on.  If a few more people were prepared to help out their fellow human beings...............

James, been thinking about this and the situation last night.

As a support to the young lady i would drop the manager of the petrol station a letter, my reason for doing this is it will provide balance should the t**t decide to do the same, and from experience if they are prepared to scream and shout then they are also prepared to write and complain
