Sat Nav in Estate question
« on: 26 August 2009, 19:25:47 »

I've just bought a Carin system and am going to fit it in an estate. Can anyone show me the location of the unit and where the GPS antenna fits please? (I know there is a fitting guide but I think that's for a saloon.

im sure the main unit is meant to go on the tunnel between the rear footwells.

It was on the earlier Mini Facelifts but on the later ones it was fixed to the roof close to the rear door.

Is the system you have from an estate or a saloon?

It depends on if its an early or late system. On the early on it had a sticky pad and sticks to the dash by the tax disc, on the later system it has a bracket and it fixes behind the dash close to the centre vents IIRC.

Elite Pete is correct on both counts.

1998 cars have unit on tunnel between rear footwells, 1999 have in in headlining, NSR corner

You can see the player on the tunnel between the seats

and if you look to the rear right you can just make out the player in the roof

I think you might find it difficult to get hold of, it was only used for about 12 months or so and only on the estate so I would think it quite hard to find :(

Reckon I could make that tunnel one. Looks a bit weird though!

Got a suspicion I have a dark grey tunnel mount somewhere, but can't think where on earth it is  :-[

In mine (a ’98 estate) the unit was moved to the centre of the spare wheel and the cables ran under the back seat.  Very clean and practical.

You could have it if I could find it, but it wasn't where I expected it to be.  Wouldn't know where else to look for it, so guess I binned it  :-[
