DVD headrests
« on: 15 March 2010, 11:55:31 »

Hello, I'm going to put some dvd headrests in the mig to keep the kids happy on long trips. They are in the wifes Vectra at the moment and I have them pluged into a 40a emty fuse socket in the boot. Can anyone sugest a good place to plug in the headrests in the omega? I dont want to use the cig lighter in the back because the dvd will go off every time I turn the engine off. Thanks for any help :y

Always adviseable to connect via an ignition switched supply to ensure that when the keys are out, the system is dead and cannot inadvertantly drain the battery.

Easy enough to run a cable from battery (with a fusible link) back to where you want it with a suitable connector at the outlet

Believe me mate when I say use the 12v socket between the seats! I also said 'I always turn them off' until I forgot!, if the ignition timer hadn't turned them off, i'd have been left stranded. :y

I have a single dvd  screen in between the seats for the kids in the rear, and have forgotten to turn them off twice now on a sunday, resulting in reluctant starting first thing monday morning for work!!!!!

GOTTA be ign controlled, mine are now wired via fuse from the rear lighter skt.

Nuff said.

OK, well I would run a cable (fused, of course at 7.5A) and take it from the fusebox via a grommet. i would also take a negative (earth wire) from the earth block too, and make sure you run them under the L/H sills and then under the carpet (use a welding rod or coathanger to feed it) to a plug skt (maplins 12v marked up) drilled underneath the lighter skt.

hope this helps.

Turned off doesn't necessarily mean they are consuming no current. ;)
