Hi all, I work for SKF and may be able to get wheel bearings/hub units for nearly cost price, If anyone is interested i will enquire about prices.  :y

That certainly sounds like an offer worth following up.  :y

Agreed - plenty on here would be interested.

Shame it is just a few hours since I bought one from my local stealer for £122,000.   :'(

Very much interested Rob. That would be great if you can pull that off. :y

Not being funny though, there are various makes with the same problem. We 'll need to be able to remove all the play. Some members have Polly bushes fitted which seem to magnify any play, knocks or wheel balance issues through the steering, so the barrings will need to be spot on.

Certainly feel the problem on mine anyway, and no Pollys yet.

But not wanting to look a gift hours in the mouth, yes please.  :y

If we try some SKF bearings and still have a problem, would you perhaps be in a position to feed back our findings to SKF and perhaps get it resolved? I'm thinking it could be advantageous to both parties.

Certainly Kevin  :y Although i don`t expect any problems. SKF have been making them for 100+ years now and our bearings are used on Ferrari ( we are one of their sponsors ) and 99% of the other F1 teams. We also supply car manufactures with bearings, and many repackage them into their own replacement spares kits. Obviously if anyone encountered any problems with any hub units or rear wheel bearings this would be taken seriously, and believe me, a full investigation would follow. I was wondering what make of bearings were being used in the Contitech kits, as i am more familiar with this company supplying drive/transmission belts like Gates.
As a footnote, before someone who closely follows F1 will no doubt point out, Schumacher recently had to retire from a race due to wheel bearing failure. On investigation by our automotive division, it was found that the team had modified the brake assembly housing without consulting us about the consequences. This was found to have lead to the unit overheating the bearing which lead to it`s failure. This has been the only instance of bearing failure we have been informed of in F1 for quite a while.

After chatting with Robbo, we have found the tradeclub descriptions are wrong...

Hi Jimbob,
Re your reply to the post regarding the Contitech wheel bearings...
I`m a little confused here. (not difficult  :-\) In your reply to the post on the forum you gave what i presume are vaux part numbers and prices for the hub assembly and bearing kit. As you may be aware i work for SKF and offered to find out if i can obtain units and bearings at near cost price. According to my records at work we only do the complete hub assembly (Vaux part number 90486467 ) for the front wheels and two bearings for the rear, a version for armoured vechiles and one for non armoured. I know our cars are regarded as solid but armoured??? lol. In your reply you stated the option of either the complete hub or replacement bearing, yet the number you quoted for the replacement bearing was for the rear wheels according to my records. This was for a bearing with 74mm diameter, 37mm bore and 45mm width. I am waiting to hear from my automotive division contact for prices and what the difference is between the non armoured bearing and armoured version. I hope to have the info tomorrow.
Regards Rob.

Hiya,
taken from the trade club website:

Application    Description    Part No.    Retail    Trade    Trade Club    Wish List
3.2i 24v V6 - Y32SE    Front; With ABS; Hub Assy.    90486467    £134.00    £114.16    £101.01
3.2i 24v V6 - Y32SE    Rear; Wheel Bearing Kit    90486468    £67.00    £57.04    £44.25
3.2i 24v V6 - Y32SE    Front; Saloon; Wheel Bearing Kit; Ø 74mm    90510542    £43.00    £36.55    £28.53

Armoured, I beleive is the 1 word description for the hearses, ambulances, police, military vehicles....theres a few parts specific to them.

Looking at those in EPC..
90486467 - Hub Assembly
90486468 - REAR armored saloon or any Estate bearing
90510542 - Rear Saloon Bearing.

So The tradeclub descriptions are wrong!

Also further looks on EPC do not show a part number for the front bearing on its own.

As Jimbob has stated in his last post where he gave part numbers for the bearings and hub units members should be aware of the diference between the rear wheel bearings. According to my records at work, estates require part number 904864468 and saloons 90510542. However, if your omega saloon is an ex-plod etc, you could need the same part number as the estate. Bearing dimensions for the estate ( 90486468 ) are outer diameter 74mm, inner or bore size 37mm and width 45mm. The saloon rear wheel bearing is 74mm diameter, inner or bore of 39mm and a width of 39mm. As you can see there is quite a difference between them so it may be best to check sizes before buying, if possible.  :y
