Shaving
« on: 26 February 2012, 13:08:24 »

I'm about to change shaving methods again...

I started with Gillette razors, and seem to alternate their current razor with an electric shaver, using top of the range shavers from Phillips, Braun, and lastly Panasonic (which was the best I'd used).  Until my face gets fed up, or shaver wears out and I change again.

Currently on Gillette Fusion...but my skin has had enough and its time for a change.

Fancying a go at a traditional Double Edge razor, and blade selection such as :

http://connaughtshaving.com/popular.html
Not too sure on getting a cream and brush...so sticking to gel for the moment.  Much reduces initial outlay, may have a go depending on how I get on.

Everyone who uses a DE system seems to be a real fan and wont consider anything else.

Seems to be a better shave, and huge cost saving compared to cartridge razors.

Anyone else use this method....any advice?

any advice?

Buy plasters in bulk?

(I jest - never been brave enough to try a traditional razor.. have had the odd professional shave done with a cutthroat - brilliant, if a little scary!)

I stick to running a pair of clippers over mine every few days, but then I don't need to stop anywhere as the hair on my head is just as short non-existant. ;D

Always fancied a cut throat shave...never got around to it though.

Good point though, will add a styptic pencil to the order.

Use to use one of those in my teens, made a right mess of my face and ended up getting rashes, so moved on to electric shavers, strange thing is now, many moons later, electric bring me out in a rash, so now I only wet shave, when I can be bothered, tried most, now generally only use Bic Disposables, the Orange Sensitive type, and Gel, works for me.

A tip I was given years ago from a Barber is not to use Hot or Cold water when Wet Shaving, only luke warm?

I use a Philishave. Then I just splash on half a pint or so of Old Spice/Denim/ Brut/ Hai karate and the girls are putty in my hands.... ;)

I find it helps to wash and lather beard thoroughly first to soften the bristles, keep beard wet, apply foam, then shave with the grain loosely.

Then wet hands and use the remainder of foam on face to rub in/re lather and re shave against the grain finally.

Still can't shave every day though. Gillette sensor turbo(?) seems to suit me best. I have the orange fusion ones currently which don't seem as good. Although I think the orange blades are a cheaper spec than came with the fusion I bought. :-\

Can't get on with electric shavers. Too many lay flat bristles and seem to sting and pull more.

Have you tried a braun series 3 ?

Its my current leccy shaver.....designed for people who dont shave everyday and its waterproof, so can be used in the shower if you wish.....i find it doesnt pull hairs even if i havent shaved for a few days.....however it probably takes slightly longer to shave than most leccy shavers as you sometimes have to go over the same area several times to get a smooth shave  :y

Last foil razor I had wasn't any better, and the foil broke and cut me chin. Although it wasn't a Braun. Pillishave no better. Not sure it's worth the expense of trying a third electric razor tbh. :-\
