Omega General Help / Rear wheel bearing puller dimensioning
« on: 18 June 2011, 09:07:24 »
Hello all
I am going to change the rear wheel bearing in the near future without taking away the suspension arm. I understood that the suspension arm have a flanger and the bearing have to be pulled out. I will make the tool by myself by using M20 thread etc. Could anyone inform what is the minimum diameter of the hole in the suspension arm. The bearing outer diameter seems to be 74 mm and the thickness of the outer sleeve of the bearing is 2.5 mm. Thus the minimum hole/flange inner diameter in the suspension arm shoul be something between 69 mm and 74 mm but how much it is ? This info is neede when making the puller tool as I want to have everything ready before I start this job.

Hello
When I turn right I hear noise from left front weel. When I turn left there is almost not noise at all. When I lift the car up and rotate the front left weel I hear irregular rattle from the wheel. So, I quess that the bearing is broken after 160000 km. Is this typical, is it a big job to change.

Omega General Help / Minimum thickness of discs
« on: 05 April 2011, 19:18:08 »
Just changed new pads for all wheels. Discs seemed to be worn e.g. 1 mm/side. Do anyone know the minimum  thickness of discs. I have air cooled both front and back and about 150 000 km behind.

Omega General Help / Electric Water Pumps
« on: 27 November 2010, 13:23:33 »
Hello
I read from owners manual that even if the engine is stopped the heater could be used. The manual just advice to press the "Auto" button and then the water should be circulated by electric motor and fan should start. When I do this the only thing which happens is that the heater lights temperature adjutments etc. start to operate and fan blows for a couple of seconds and the stops. I found under bonnet two electric water pumps. One is located just below the battery and another behind the air filter. None of them is operating. I quess that the pump behind the filter is the one which is perhaps broken. Do anyone have exoerience about this and what purpose has the other pump below the battery ?

Omega General Help / Fault codes 170 and 173
« on: 21 November 2010, 15:10:38 »
Hello all

I was driving normally 80 km/hour when I realized that the MIL orange light is on. I drove home and started the car couple of times, the light remained on. With pedal trick I found codes 170 and 173; Fuel trim malfunction bank 1 and bank 2. What does this mean. Which parts I have to replace ? The car seems to work normally, however.

Omega General Help / Codes 170 and 173
« on: 24 August 2010, 05:48:28 »
Hello
Very difficult to start this morning. However, I succeeded and drove to work. Checked the pedal trick and found 170 and 173. Where in these pages are these code lists ?

Hello, I have now 140 000 km behind. This morning it happened "Check Coolant Level". What I found was that the coolant was leaking both sides of the gear bos. Whren I put the heating system off the leakage stopped for a while. I quess that I have to change the HBV. Are there any other possible reasons for this - actually it is really difficult to see where the water is leaking from without disassembling wipers etc. Please comments before I start to change the HBV.

Omega General Help / Fuel filler cap remained locked
« on: 13 June 2010, 17:29:00 »
Hello
Doors etc. work perfectly so generally central locking is OK. I took the "motor" away to be able to fill the tank. The locking pin of the motor does not move manually. Do I just have to buy a new one ?

Omega General Help / Bad brakes
« on: 27 December 2009, 12:27:13 »
Hello

I drive 2001 sedan with Y26SE. Brakes are really bad. All pads are new and all pistons and other moving parts move well. I once read in this forum that Omeaga brakes should work so that when you "Jump on Pedal the whole world stops". Mine does not work like that. In normal driving/braking all is OK but when brakes are really needed they are uneffective. To be honest have to admit that I never changed the brake fluid but I do not believe that it is the reason - the pedal "touch" is good - I mean it is not soft. Does anyone of you have same kind of problems ?

Omega General Help / P0725 and P1625
« on: 20 April 2009, 06:49:40 »
Hello

I changed the crank sensor to my Y26SE last week. The engine is now starting and running perfectly. No error codes can be found with pedal trick, (battery was disconnected during replacement of sensor). I bought later a cheap chinese Memo Scanner U480 (50 euro) and checked how it works. It reported the codes P0725 and P1625. The codes are read when ignition is on but engine not started. Does anyone of you what this means. Is it just that engine is not running or are these codes in the memory from history. The battery was disconnected about five days when I changed the sensor.

Just for info I decided to route the sensor cable like it originally was, between the oil cooling tubes and the block as I thought it is better that it "moves" together with the engine. The lower part of the cable was isolated with some kind of metal/isolation flexible tube. Let's see how long it last. I read that many of you recommend an alternative route.

Is it possible that allways when I have had battery disconnected for a while the nature of the car is totally different. It accelerates better and shifts later etc. Does the ECU "learn" something about the way you drive or do I just imagine the whole thing ? any experience ? Engine is 2.6 (Automatic gear)

Omega General Help / Removing Oil Filter "Frame" V6 (Y26SE)
« on: 10 April 2009, 17:15:55 »
Hello

In my 2.6 V6 engine there is a cartridge type of oil filter. As I would like to remove the oil cooler tubes I have to remove the oil filter "frame". After having remover the cap how do I remove the filter cover or frame to get access to these tubes.

Omega General Help / Engine Stop
« on: 08 April 2009, 21:26:16 »
Hello
I have Omega 2001 Elegance with V6 engine Y26SE and with automatic gearbox. I realized recently that when I brake with motor e.g. when appoachin traffig lights the rpm. meter start to jump between 0 and 1000 rpm. Often after this the engine stops and it is very difficult to start again. Perhaps it is the crank sensor, but it is difficult to check as the pin No. 6 does not exist anymore in these "newer" models. Earlier the only the paper clip was required.

Do you have any tips for this.

Omega General Help / Leakage
« on: 02 May 2007, 09:36:44 »
Hello from Finland. I drive 2.6.V6 Elegance 2001 model. I have very small leakage somewhere in coolant system lets say 0.5 litres each three months. No leakage can be seen but there is a slight glycol smell when I open the door after drive. Do you have experience of this ?
