I tihnk I've posted this before, but have a look here as well;

http://www.glasspolishshop.com

various products there.

You can also try Fenwicks plastic glass cleaner/polish (used on Caravan windows!) which is available from Soapy Joes (Google them) for about a fiver I think, or your local caravan place.

Omega General Help / Re: AC stopped blowing cold air...

Hi,

From this morning the AC has stopped blowing cold air  :(

I have checked the following thread nhttp://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1213951801

when idle (rpm ~500) and the AC is OFF, the front bit of the aircon compressor pulley does not turn.
When AC is ON (rpm ~600), the front bit turns I guess the same speed as the aircon compressor pulley.

Does this mean the AC needs re-gassing ?

With kind regards

The compressor is cutting in Ok by the sound of it, mine had so little gas left that the sensors knew it and wouldn't allow the compressor to operate.

Does seem a re-gas is in order.

How about Fenwick's Windowize? Designed to remove scratches from plastic caravan windows.

"Windowize is a quick and easy way to remove scratches and hazing from plastic acrylic windows. Restoring vision and clarity to those expensive windows."

You can get it at Soapy Smiths or try your local caravan place.

Edit: or even this stuff;

Bit dearer though!

^^^^^^^ What he said!

Get a pro to do it.

To answer your operating question.  The compressor/pump works only when the aircon is switched on.

Not sure if the aircon on my 2.6 CD is working properly or not. (not used to cars with working air con)

When I try to cool the interior, the blowers seem to be on for an incredibly long time. Not only this but the air that comes out is tepid, and extremely noisy in operation. So much so that I usually turn it off and just do without the air con.

Is this normal or does it need what they call a re-gas?

What is a re-gas?

Thanks for your help

Have a look at this thread I recently started about the guy who did my re-gas.  He did a great job and VERY reasonably priced, albeit a little far away from you maybe.

I'll second that.  When I had mine re-gassed recently the guy said that the big VX's (Senator, Carlton, Omega) have the most efficient A/C systems he works on.

We got down to 4.6 degrees C at the centre vent with an external ambient of 20.2 degrees - how much colder do you want it?

Omega General Help / Re: "Projector headlights"?
« on: 16 June 2008, 20:30:57 »
Cheers TheBoy, so why do they seem so poor?.  I thought it was the crud that had appeared on the front glass making them look "murky" but even after changing them I'm still dissapointed with their performance. They seem dull and yellow somehow, or maybe I was just spoilt by Volvo?

Would a change of bulb help - any suggestions people?

Omega General Help / "Projector headlights"?
« on: 16 June 2008, 20:13:16 »
I saw these mentioned on the post about headlight covers.

What are they?
Can they be retrofitted to my '99 minifacelift CD?
Were they are standard fit on some models (and thus available second hand) or do I have to buy new/stealer?

Cheers.

The only ones I've had real problems with on the Omega is Avon ZZ3s.  Actually, problems is wrong word - Fun is what I meant. Shame I wiped them out in 4k  :'(

Over at the VOC, the ZZ3s were universally loathed for exactly the reasons you and the other posters have quoted!!  ;D

Bearing in mind what skruntie has said I adopted the same approach as I did with my "meatier" Volvos, a compromise between performance, economy and cost.  Toyo Proxies CF1 fit the bill for me, I've just put a pair on the Miggy, 205/65/15 are £68 fitted via BlackCircles (and they have a handy ridge to help stop you kerbing your nice alloys).

Search here; http://www.blackcircles.com

With the company/lease cars (Volvo FWD) I've had then it was a case of factory-fit replacements only.  In one case this was Continental ContiSport, which wore well but tramlined and were noisy, and in the other it was Pirelli P6000's which I hated (tramlined horribly and awful in the wet, spinning the wheels in first 3 gears in a manual diesel!).  I ultimately bought both cars and (when it was time to change) changed to Goodyear Eagle F1's which transformed them.

It IS the only bit that meets the road and you can only save so much before it becomes a false economy IMO.  BlackCircles have regular deals which can save you more on certain makers and you get points to go in your "tyre bank" redeemable against future spend. As you might have guessed, I'm a big BlackCircles convert but there are other similar sites just as good I'm sure  :).

I've also had an Enduro fitted - whilst I was travelling and had a blow-out (spare had gone flat  :(  yes, I know.......).  ATS came out to me on the motorway (after instructions to bring a budget tyre) and fitted one of these for around £65 (budget....my ar$e!!) I think it was 225/45/17.  Wasn't bad, didn't unbalance the car and is still in service on the spare on that car as far as I know.

I've just changed both my headlights for this exact reason! I had a go at dismantling one of those I removed to see if the front would come off (for curiosity's sake you understand)

FORGET IT.  ;D

It is held on to the rear case with some clips around the edge, but also some of the strongest sealant/goo I've come across - certainly keeps the water out.  Totally cracked the first one I tried and didn't even try the other.

Do what I did and replace the entire unit (with 2nd hand ones that aren't in such bad nick) - it is a 15 minute job per side tops!  Grill off (2 screws), trim strip off (1 screw each side), headlight assembly out (3 screws/bolts) unplug 3 plugs, reverse procedure.

They get lots of mentions on the VxON (sorry I know I shouldn't swear  ;D ) and the odd testimonial too.

We need a branch of WIM in Leeds/Sheffield!!
