Just to put my tuppence worth in!   ::)

Up here in the proper North (ie over the roman wall), they abolished all hospital car parking charges a couple of years back.
I've no idea where the money comes from to pay for repairs etc now.   :-[

Time will tell!   :-X

You dont even pay for water up there  ::) We were told our hospital put in parking fees to stop the local workers from parking their cars in the car park for free all day . Only because the car parks in the town were taking the pizz at parking rates  >:( >:(

We don't have water meters but we do pay for it, through the council tax system!   :y

Here's a daft question for you......are all your spark plugs tight enough?
I've seen it before albeit not on an Omega!

Of course newer cars will feel smoother and more refined... will that still be the case when you seriously start looking at 100k+ mile examples? I very much doubt it...

Your welcome to come have a wee sit in mine if you venture this far north, only 85k so far but still feels good!  ;)

Went on a nice road trip yesterday from Sterling to Fort William and on to Loch Ness to Inverness and back to Sterling, 335 miles. I think Glen Coe was the best bit :y

If you went back down the A9 then I hope you stuck to the speed limit!  :-X
Average cameras all the way down there now-a-days!  :-[

The A93 from Aberdeen to Perth is a cracking road for scenery.
The TG lads have used that a few times for the show!  :y

I recently had to purchase one as the rental we had to take seemed to have lead lined walls.
This is what we bought and seemed to do the trick, and if i remember correctly was a piece of cake to install, and it just mirrored the name of your existing wifi name/names, with the addition of -EXT to the end.

General Discussion Area / Re: driving lessons is this a good plan?
« on: 04 August 2015, 06:49:53 »
ive given my 16 year old son a few lessons on some private land and hes very good.in a couple of weeks hes got 3 lessons booked with a DI on some private land as hes not 17 till September. now theres lots of DIs round here offering good deals eg 6 lessons for 55 pounds another one has 10 lessons for 99 pounds.so as I like to save money[okay iam tight] I thought he could have the cheap lessons than swap to another one with a cheap deal.
so is this a good plan or will he get confused?

Holy crap!  :-[
I need to move further south!  :y
My middle child has just turned 17, and just booked him 12 lessons for £260  :(, and that includes his first on for free and then buy 10 get one free as well!
AFAIR that's the same price we paid for his sister 3 years ago.
I can only let you know the way we play it. Once 17, a few hours with mum/dad, in the local Lidl car park in the dead of night, learning basic clutch control and first gear take off, then a mixture of DI lessons and practise with mum/dad.
Works for us anyway!

Agreed, private sale will clearly yield you more money. However given the problems with fraudsters etc, depending on the value of the car, I don't know if it would be worth the potential problems.

Reason I'm asking is that there's a potential new job in the offing and part of the package is 20% discount on new Jaguar, Land Rover and Ford products (wonder if yo can guess which company its for :P) and I'm trying to value that benefit as part of the package.

What I'm wondering is whether by buying one at 20% off, if it was a premium brand car that's popular e.g. Evoque or the upcomming Jag F-Pace whether you'd run one for basically nothing by trading it in regularly.

Correct me if I'm wrong but as stated they are offering 20% off a new car.
So this means that you won't be losing the 20% VAT, that Joe Bloggs would driving the same car off the forecourt.

In my eyes, no money to be made there....you just won't be losing as much!

Just my tuppence worth!  :y

Why not get yourself a US license?   :P

When I was in Houston back in 2000, one of the young lads asked me to give him a lift to the test place.
Whilst there I realised that for something like $25 I could do both the computer and driven test at the same time.

The only reason I did it was because I was fed up taking the passport for age checking at every bar/restaurant we went to.

Things may have changed since I did it all but you never know.

They also used to do a thing where you handed in your UK license and automatically gave you a US one, but I didn’t fancy temporarily losing my UK one.

Trouble is it will need a good run every now and again to keep the DPF working, and not clogging up!
10k a year at 40mph will do you no good!

As a side issue, does anyone else recon that within the next couple of years those in charge are going to start hammering 'soot chuckers', for their alleged carcinogenic output?

After further investigation, I think I'm going to try and steer her in the direction of a Hyundai i30 1.6 diesel.

Does her mileage warrant a 'soot chucker' ?   ;)

Edit : Just re-read your first message in this thread.......maybe the mileage does justify it!  :-[

From what I remember you plug the thing into your port and it downloads a copy of your ecu mapping, you then email that back to SC, who pick one of the predetermined adjusted maps (dependant on your original), and email it back to you, and you upload to your ECU.
You always have the original map on the handset just in case you should ever want to revert back.
If you find the new map either too harsh or not mad enough you can contact them and they will give you another map, either less or more practical.

This is no individual map service, but are one of the better generic map sellers!

This may be of not help at all, but on my current brand of motor, if the egr sticks in the 'open' position it can give difficulty in starting but once warmed up it shouldn't have much effect. If stuck in 'closed' position shouldn't really affect starting.

As Sir P states above, try the coke can trick to see if it helps.
Should confirm if its an EGR fault at least.

The relevant bit in my eyes is :

So whats this thread about again?   :y
