Air-con glove box
« on: 13 May 2012, 12:32:27 »

Fairly easy one this. Remove glove box and you'll find a knock through section on the back about the same diameter as a pound coin. Knock this out, no subtlety required.
Then fit the glove box vent within so the external inlet pipe points upwards. Push it firmly home, it will just click in.

Inside view

Now locate the ac feed pipe Vauxhall have provided, top right of foot well, rear of centre console, above the footwell vent. Screw driver in the back ground shows general location. Your looking to remove the rubber cap shown in hand. A coat hanger wire with a hook bent over on the and helps here, and fit the end of the feed pipe in its place. Fiddly this bit, unsighted, feel your way. There is a bit of moulding partially obscuring line of site, but it does go on.

More detailed closer pic of the outlet with cap removed.screw driver shows exact location.

Once fitted leave the vent pipe hanging over the BACK of the lower bar running across the footwell or the glove box won't go back in. Now re fit the glove box, connect the electrical plugs and offer the box into position. You'll see the newly fitted pipe fouls the glove box, lift the pipe up out the way to clear and slide the glove box into position.

Once the screws are in and glove box is securely in place, reach under and connect the new pipe to the nipple on the vent previously fitted. It just pushes on. Re fit the rest of the surrounding glove box gubbins. That's it job done.

Note, there's a lot of extra wires in the background of some of the pictures. These are not standard, you wont have these.
Also, the ac feed is constantly cold, but only works with engine running obviously. Don't expect Mars bars not to melt in there with car parked up on a hot day. ;)

It's a nice idea, but would be much more useful if the glovebox held more than the owner's manual and a pen!

Oh, bigger stuff like cd's and a pair of sunglasses in the pic you mean?

There is room for canned drinks and small bottles. Etc. long journey stuff though admittedly.

Removing the leaflet pocket moulding at the top would help...  One day.

Might keep a pack of minstrels unmelted for me, seeing as I have a 2015 telematics in there.

Not even space for the stringback driving gloves in there, let alone a mars bar.

Cracking right up though!! :y :y

I had my Telematics moved to the boot (Thanks to VXLV6 and TheBoy) Then fitted a standard glove box that had the knock through moulded in.

Bonus, think I'll try this out. Even if it's not that cool it'll be another bullet in the gun of "omegas are better than your shitty fwd shed" aimed at robots

Haven't done a journey more than 30mins but so far...

...it does not appear to be particularly cold.  :'(

Will it not depend on your climate setting? So will only get properly cold if you've got yours on a fairly low temp?

Or is it from a separate feed?
