Having a bit of grief with the 3 techy team at the mo..

our local mast is 'down'
what that really means they wont say, but after having a bit of a 'polite strop, with informing them how service industry works'  they decided to admit it was going to be down for another few weeks....

neither of us had a bill this month :)  daresay we wont next month either :)

We have found on 3, that when you start getting issues such as missing texts, walk into a 3 shop and they give you a new sim card which sorts the issue.  (dont try this on the helpline, as they wont, and say its impossible for a new sim to sort it)

cant beleive the sim is actually faulty, suspect it refreshes something in the backend that really sorts the problem

So how does 4G help us out with all this?

Will Everything everywhere live up to its name?

Don't hold your breath. ;D

Providing universal coverage for any network is an expensive game of diminishing returns, so they roll out enough to reap the rich pickings in cities and usage hotspots, and roll out enough coverage elsewhere to stop (too many) customers jumping ship.

"4G" / LTE isn't really a technology suited to providing blanket coverage of large areas, IMHO. It's best suited to providing very concentrated high speed data in areas of dense usage. Laughable, then, that OFCOM, in their wisdom, are pushing the digital dividend TV spectrum for it, since it's at entirely the wrong frequency for the technology.

Expect to be falling back to either 2G (or phone boxes!) in the more remote areas, regardless of technology.

The EE 4G Network will be expanded by switching off some of its mirrored Orange or T Mobile Sites, so much for there biggest Network in the Uk claim.

Still cant believe O2 and Vodafone are knocking out iPhone 5's on 24 month contracts, knowingly and not telling Customers that the phone will never work on there own 4G Networks in the near future!

my son has just received his Iphone 5 and promptly dropped it - it broke immediately - his new one arrives today.

Get yourself a decent case for it. The Nokias will survive a few drops but the Iphone does not appear to be too resilient.

New cases and screen protectors will be fitted before they go live ;) All I've done at the moment is put them both on charge and I expect to spend the rest of this evening sorting them out ::)

Full signal today, and, yes, I can make a call. :P

However, this is becoming a bit of a habit for them. ::)

In the case of NiffNaff, 3rd time in 7 months, useless 'tards. 2nd for O2, nearly as useless 'tards.

But I'm staying, as nobody offers the coverage of O2 based networks.

How long is the lead on the 5 charger?

About same as old one, although new leads have a chip inside them, so only genuine will work. Although there are indications it has been cracked

So woefully short then :(
