The Right Excellent Sir Garfield St Aubrun Sobers.

Remember him from the Lancashire cricket club stats…

He was one of the old school 'firm but fair' type of headmaster.

Would only beat boys to the edge of death if they deserved it. :)

I only got caned once. That was for “ lying boy”.

I arrived at school late- about 10.30 am. Why are you late boy? Snow sir, had to walk. It was raining in Scarborough but we had that much snow inland the minibus that took us three miles to public service bus couldn’t run. In fact no vehicles ran that section. It was my first year at grammar school and dad said walk.

Rest of day, I kept thinking , I have got to walk those three miles uphill  in driving deep snow.

I only told my dad recently about the caning. He said you should have told me. No point , you can’t undo a caning!

I was blamed for everything........but was probably only responsible for about 80%. >:D ;D ;D
