......
I would wager more people are still furloughed or otherwise underemployed in the UK than have died from TCV in Europe . In fact, there's between 1.1 and 1.6 million people still furloughed, which makes me fairly insignificant in the scheme of things.
furlough pay is a safety net to give people money to eat, pay rent etc because their sector of the economy is shut to stop the virus spreading .
had everything remained open and no restrictions had been put in place then thousands more people would have died .
it's NOT a payment just to stop the furloughed person catching covid

so the comparison between the number of people still on furlough and the number of people who "have died from TCV in Europe" is not comparable

........ my being furloughed makes about as much difference to anything as Dave hiding under the mattress.
I've not hid under the mattress

BUT .
I've worn a face mask since before the first lockdown in enclosed spaces ,shops ,people's houses when doing jobs etc
used hand sanitizer and disinfectant ,lots and lots of disinfectant , and stayed away from people as much as possible .
I have taken the pandemic seriously and taken precautions to protect myself and others .
had everyone done the same and not dismissed a global pandemic as " a cold" ,we wouldn't be in such a mess
