Was 20cents a gall US gall  at the time  which as the dollar was like 2.50 to £1  ...about 12p our gallon LOL !

Fantastic at the time, but the USA will never see those days again that's for sure! :'( :'( :'( :'(

I remember my American friends virtually crying when their price of a gallon went to 60 cents (about 1990), I know what they currently think about the price in 2008....it is unprintable! :o :o :o :o :o :o

Very American with the 'Coke bottle' styling Andy:y.  Never liked it myself as much as the Mk2/4 & 5 Cotina's, even though I drove two brand new Mk 3's!  Never really knew why; just didn't :-/ :-/ :-/.

Of all the late Cortinas it was the 3 I liked the best. Although there was very little between the 4 & 5 I always think that the 4 is the most bland.
It was the Taunus Coupe that I wouldn't liked though.

Now, to me, that looks like a cross between the Mk 3 Cortina and the Granada Coupe. :-/

The MkIII Taunus had a different bonnet from our Cortina, it narrowed more. A bit difficult to tell from that picture.
