Electric Oven Probs...
« on: 18 November 2008, 18:59:57 »

An oven that used to take 20 mins to heat up, now takes 30-40 minutes.

What do you think is wrong?

I'm thinking replace the element, only £20.

I think there is a thermostat somewhere, but sounds more likely element, esp if light goes out at right temp.

According to the light, it does maintain its temp,

Maybe I should do some thermometer checks as well.

What? An oven should take, like, 2-3 minutes to get to working temp. Mine does.

2-3 minutes  :-? do you have a nuclear reactor inside . it takes 4 minutes for a standard electric element to achieve core temperature , a further 6 minutes for the air inside to reach the same temp and a further 6-8 minutes for the walls to reach the same temp depending on insulation , what you are aiming for is thermal equilibrium , which means that the convection current temperature within the oven cavity is the same at the top as it is at the bottom then click goes the thermostat which is usually a bi-metalic pressure switch .

We've notice our top oven is taking ages to heat up lately.  I guess I should look at it, but its easier to preheat on grill, then flick oven on ::)
