Q for Admin
« on: 02 May 2010, 12:40:13 »

Can anybody tell me why the post I made yesterday about getting a drill at less than half retail price was removed?

I'm guessing the content and the terminology used was the reason it got deleted.

The "content" was a picture of the drill I had bought (GBH 36 VF-LI).

So the phrases "can't keep his dick in his pants", and "slipping the Bosch rep a length" are likely to offend?

I did (for once) actually sit & think about what I was going to write in order not to offend, and I really can't see where the offence is in either of them to be honest.

However if either of those phrases are deemed offensive here, can you tell me why one search I conducted pulled up 15 hits containing racist remarks?

I was also given a warning by H21 not too long ago that stated if I used ANY expletive again (including if it was masked by spaces, blanks, etc) then I would be banned immediately, yet a quick search shows it seems it is perfectly OK for others to do the same.

Ironically, one of the people who has done just what I was told I couldn't do is one of the people who used to constantly complain about my so called "unnecessary" use of certain words that some consider offensive.

Don't get me wrong Jaime, I took on board H21's warning and do try to avoid using expletives - but if that warning from H21 applies to me then it's not unrealistic to expect it to apply to everybody if this really is a democratic community.

You are correct in every respect.  You are perfectly aware of the the community here, and I would say that those phrases are probably too close to the bone (no pun intended).

You are also correct, the rules apply equally to you as they do to everyone else.

I cannot possibly read every thread, I'm sure the other admins can't either.  Some slip through the net, some don't.

Personally, I guess I also 'miss' things that need moderating - like many, I am a member of, and moderate, many different forums and online resources, each with its own rules and levels of decency, its easy to mis-moderate.

Each post is moderated by the Admin who happens to be reading it at the time, within their interpretations of the rules, and their views on the common decency of that post.  Each post is considered on its own merit.  Yes, some get missed.  Yes, some get read, but still missed as being inappropriate for this site.

Whilst, as you know, any rules are easily bypassed, all members here should be fully aware of the community type here, and where the line of decency for this site is drawn.

I fully accept that the odd one or two (or even three if I'm being generous) posts will slip through, but 15 posts (15 is the search limit) and EVERY single one of the results found containing racist comments has managed to "slip through"?

Sorry chap, don't believe that for a minute.

My 2p worth.

Kw had 2 options open to him in this matter

1) Contact an admin via pm to discuss the matter

2) Create a public post

The sensible approach would have been to take course of action no 1.

Those who wish to 'stir' choose option 2

There is then the other argument that kids are looking over parents shoulders, etc....and that is quite a likely scenario.

However, those same kids have more than likely already heard swearing, more than likely seen a pair of tits on page 3, etc.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for kids keeping their innocence for as long as possible - but trying to prevent them seeing or hearing words that are in the Oxford English they use to do their homework.......can ya see the flaw?  ;D
