Oh, and 250 posts is actually very low... It doesn't take that long to get there if you join in with the discussions ;) ;) ;)

lol 250 might sound low to you, but if you check how long i've been a member and i still only have 28 posts, its riduclously high. i usually don't have time to read/reply to many threads. only ones like this that jump out at me.

I think these are the important points to consider;

This site is predominantly about keeping Omegas on the road and general chit-chat, there are plenty of other sites you can use to sell things ;)

If you desperately want to sell stuff, there's always the paid auction sites ;) :y

Im not saying you have been ripped off, and im not saying you havent....

but this is PRECISELY why we dont allow public trading with newbies with next to no post count  :-X

its posts like this that really piss me off, i have a low post count, but i have already bought items from peeps here a,for cash and i went to collect from elite pete, who wasn't at home but kindly left the item in his back garden for me, and b, RobG who i bought 2x items from, payment sent via paypal, and he posted very quickly after payment received, but i am restricted to NOT being able to post items i may have for sale, and if i do i have to post in the test area, to which i get no post count.

it actually puts me off advertising anything here due to this fact.  but i  wouldn't dream off 'ripping' anyone off by not sending an item, at the end of the day we are all trying to help each other out.

my rant over lol

When OOF opened, anyone could sell.

Fingers got burned very quickly by a minority spoiling it for the majority.

Thank them for your inability to sell now.

as for post count....advertising doesnt count full stop, neither cars / parts for sale, or the test zone count as contribution towards postcount.

Hope this helps clarify that we are not big mean monsters, but just doing our best to protect the membership.

also OOF takes money and lots of time to run....why should we allow it to be a free advertising service to save 'fly by nighters' on ebay fees?  Contribute, and we allow you to sell.  Its a 2 way street.

slightly naughty I guess to reveal this, but according to his IP address, he has given you the correct town.

Your bank details are probably better than any IP address.
(just google the sort code - will show you his bank / actual branch depending on bank.

The meeting options does sound like the intention was there to do a deal, not just get money for a non existant item.

With a bit of luck he is just being lazy and hasnt packaged / sorted a courier.

Thats why at the time I was happy to send the funds, because I felt at the time it was "safe".
Never thought to look up his bank details on line, will do that shortly.

Thanks for the pointers!  :y

Banks are no use, they protect their clients interests. If you go in and say Mr XXX ows me £150 and he banks here, they will simply refer you to the police.

I've been caught a couple of times before, if someone asks for a bank transfer, and you don't have full contact details like address (verified with electoral register) walk away.

I have amended that for you Gard but the kernel of the problem remains - whether or not the need is imperative - if you don't have the requisite post count, then you can't sell.

In general, a very sensible requirement insofar as the protection of the membership is concerned - not necessarily from you but from those who would try to exploit any situation to their own advantage.

That's correct V, I've just read the bit where Viper said that he didn't use them. :-[

No point in appealing to PayPal in that case - I don't think reporting the matter to the police will produce any results but, in the last resort, can it do any harm?

side bar....

I too have only recently joined the forum. you can see however that my post count is plenty high enough now to post.
I have taken a keen interest in topics and conversations, and i like being able to come on here and learn a bit every day about the car i own, and the other people that own them lol.

I waited till i had 250 posts, and tbh it really didnt take that long. And i completely appreciate why it needs to happen, as it stops people who are not an ACTIVE member of the forum just signing up to make a couple of posts and try to sell stuff. At the end of the day, most of the people who post on here frequent this place almost everyday, myself included.
We're not just passing through everynow and then.

Dont get me wrong, I've done just that in other more broad spectrum forums.
But this is a very Specific forum, for a very specific car, and as such you'd only really come here with a vested interest.

imo anyways
