I have had a couple of Classic Range Rovers you have to keep on top of them but its like any car you buy, you do all the usual jobs then you lok after it properly. . you never know how well the other owners have looked after it.. .

I have also owned a couple of P38's. . the one I have now is creating me a little stress as it is over fueling of the scale when I took it for MOT, plus the Land Rover computer will not read the ECU for some reason to tell me what the problem is so it could be a box of Swan Vesta soon 
All in all though for money and what you get I think the Range Rovers are a good 4 x 4 . . . V8's sound lovely, they go pretty well too when you press the go faster pedal, about 18-20 mpg, but best of all for me when Mrs Loo-knee & Loo-knee Jnr's are in it I feel they are safe if that makes sense. .

Disco or Rangie for towing big stuff, and any Defender/Disco/Rangie for serious off road.

As others have pointed out, the BMW molested Rangies (mid nineties onwards) do have some serious reliability issues.

2.5TD one (basically the same engine as 2.5TD Omegas) is underpowered for this application, and it shows with poor performance and poor mpg.

Early rangies, Series I and II Discos, and very old defenders do suffer from rot.

i think it was only the "p38" which suffered from poor reliability. the design was finished immediately before he BMW takeover.

have just started ooking at L322's - incredible value for money, have seen them down to £8500, for what is a "current-shape" Range Rover.

Had just done a Mud Run at a festival, then went off to Tesco's for the beer run for the evening event.
So to keep car legal had just cleaned Plates and Lights ;-)

A rare sight these days. 
I've seen loads of cars today where the lazy bat stewards can't be bothered to clear snow from lights & number plates.  :-? :-?

The only real 4x4 is a Series Land Rover, basic but like a meccano set to fix.....

Ah, but unless it's an early series Landy they're not permanent 4x4, which is why you're better off with a Defender.

But, you don't need permanent 4x4 and as long as there is enough slippy stuff down can use in 4x4 without axle wind up.......

I love my disco been great in this weather, it's a 300tdi 3.9 V8, head gasket presently blowing  sunroof leaks wing mirror knocked off got a vibration at about 65 would I swap it NO unless its a 110 csw.
