Pulled the protective covers off the Omega which had been put over it whilst I am restoring the BMW on the other side of the garage . First time I'd looked at it since last October and I realised how much I'd missed it , sunk into that incredibly comfortable seat and sat there for five minutes enjoying the surroundings again. :) Didn't put it on the road this year due to the unfair level of taxation over here making it too expensive for the 2K miles a year I do in it. Was thinking of selling it ,but I won't . It'll be back on the road again soon.
Found the battery dead which surprised me as it's on a "exerciser " which keeps the battery charged and healthy . decided it must have been a poor connection on the charger so have it on trickle for the next couple of days and then I'll start it.
Started the painting of the lower half of the BMW after finishing the new rear wheel arches. That was the most time consuming and difficult part of the restoration so far , my fingertips were actually bleeding ........ :'(

Yep, everything with fresh paint is new steel, including the sodding great big universal steel buffer plank with fake rivets (there bolts with the head turned off and nylocks on the rear)

Ok technically I knew what I was getting into this time..

It's a wankel in need of a rebuild, but the car was only a few hundred notes, so..

Yup, 2004 in metallic red with every option ticket it seems - drives beautifully when cold and turns into a ropey old dog when hot which is fairly classic rebuild symptoms (as they had receipts for new coil packs & spark plugs already).

There's a company in Alton who'll do them for £800 if you drop off the engine or £1750 (guaranteed maximum price) if you drop off the whole car, so that's not too bad at all.

Which hints at £2-300 notes of bits plus a large lump of labour, do you not fancy doing it yourself.

Having just re-built a Hitler engine which was put together a mere few hundred miles ago by one of the most respected engine refurb companies for that engine type, I can honestly say I wont get anyone re-building one of mine.  :y

I am tempted - it's not an every day car so it can languish without an engine for a while.. but looking around for rebuild kits the prices are close to those quoted by Apex Rotary for a rebuild inc parts & labour with a years warranty.

I'm sure there are cheaper sources of parts, of course.. I might just not be looking in the right places yet :)
