What's all this  :-\  ::)  ;D

Yup, I snapped a banjo bolt on TB's first project, luckily the top was still exposed so I could put a screw driver in between gaps and free it off  :)

This was on a 97 model, 2.5 I think?  :-\

The item listed is a genuine Vx part, when the Calibra and Cav were having oil cooler problems in the early days of the V6, GM produced a Kit which included the updated cooler, cooler plate, new nuts and O rings against part number 93176626. This part is listed in TIS in the relevant TSB.

This part number is NOT listed in EPC but can be ordered from Vx by the dealer (if they can be arsed to go onto the Vx parts ordering system) and costs MUCH less than the individual parts.

Contents of the kit are the same as the individual items.

Your original cooler will have been stainless to, the issue is that people instantly think that stainless does not corrode when in reality it does, particularly if there are any salts or impurities etc in the system (there will be), its good antifreeze service intervals that keep the cooler etc in good condition.

The copper look is from memory a coating which is applied to the steel to allow it to be resistive welded so no cause for concern.

Well no, 25% really, as I've only ever done 2 cooler changes start to finish.

Cheers for the info Mark - much appreciated :)  I'll get one on order and then drag Mr Gixxer over here to give me a hand ;D Always better to have a second person there to swear at the car when it's not cooperating, I find!

Have you got 19mm crows foot? Well worth investing in one for the oil cooler bolts at the filter end.  :y

Yes, the trick I find is to start by jacking the car up and removing the oil filter, then slacken the oil cooler pipes right off with the crows foot spanner so the fastenings are totaly out of the block (a spray of penetrating fluid helps as does tightening them slightly first to get them to move, it sometimes also helps to pop the crank sensor out tog et a bit more access but, its very dependent on the kit your using). Start the oil draining if changing the oil also.

Drop the car and change the oil cooler, loose fit the cooler pipes at the cooler plate with the banjos/seals.

Then jack the car up and refit and tighten the oil cooler pipes to the block and refit the oil filter/assembly and oil drain plug if removed. This makes sure that the cooler pipes are correctly aligned before there tightened up.

Drop the car and finish the job.

Yup - well, no, but I did just order one .. same difference assuming it doesn't get lost in the post ;D

Yes, the trick I find is to start by jacking the car up and

Jack? Good lord no, I'll just walk under it in the pit  :) Sounds good though - doable in a day, although add on all the other jobs and it'll be a couple of days I should think, all told.

Still, could be worse, I could be having to do head gaskets!

On the subject of the oil cooler again - the dowty washers I've got are for the coolant bridge; are the washers on the oil cooler feed lines (part 2, here - http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=90588.0) replacement items or reusable? For that matter are they just copper washers of a suitable size?

As I recall they are a copper/aluminium crush washer like on a sump plug type afair. Use once only.

Your link confirms, I thought there should be 4, where masters link only "shows" two.

Okedoke - off to Vx for them, then, as I can't find them on eBay.. still, they were cheap if I recall, £1.02 each.. OK, not cheap for a washer, but cheaper than the rest of it was!
