1800 miles in its first month... I should probably wash it or summat ::)

Fuel consumption improved yet ???
Still hovering around 35.5mpg :-\ tbh, it's what I was expecting, neither my Altea nor my first Vectra C did any better, so that was the figure I did my sums on rather than the 45 suggested in the manual...
It's still 14mpg up on the Omega though ::)

Driving it around town and idling/lots of stopping and starting ::)

It's not ragged, rarely exceeding 2000rpm/75ish :y

Washed it.  :)  Whilst going over it with the chamois leather, I noticed it was 'speckled' with magnolia masonry paint from when I painted the house last year!  ::)  :(

Shows how often I hand wash my car.....   :o  ::)  ;D

....stood chatting while Serek did the Cambelt...... 8)

Lovely standing idle in the glorious Huntingdon sunshine. Done for another 4 years  :y :y

Also got the front wheels re-balanced as the local muppets didn't do it properly....wobbling steering wheel at 60 - which was apparently, (the muppets said) due to worn rear tyres....(sigh)

120 grammes out on the right; 65 on the left. I shan't be going back to them..... >:(

Today was a good day . :)
Completed the rear of my BMW E24 and moved onto the front . Small area of both front floors need new metal but after thoroughly inspecting the front nooks and crannies all rust is superficial and surface only .
Front wings , bonnet and bumper off tomorrow .

after clutch kit and oil change for clit last week , yesterday sanded the 5 year old summer tires (micheline pilot exalto)  with da sander and 80 grid (must confess it took more than 3 hours) .. reason was it had stil 5 mms of tread depth but surface nearly shining :-\ hopefully will see the results next weekend :)

and here is some info about tyre sanding

Whats the date like on those tyres cem? Should only really be used 5yrs beyond the date stamp in sidewalls.

I found similar with Michelin, you get this hard sheen that causes low grip, but makes them last - I think that is be design.

I'm fed up with throwing 5-6 mm tread tires because of age :( anyway I'll try every experiment on them before I throw them away..they were skating so often.. I think mileage is minimum 20K miles..

ps: now checked the date they are from 2011 :o I thought I bought them at 2009 ;D

pps: when I bought them, their surface were not shiny.. now after sanding I reached a softer compound.. hopefully I'm hopeful ;D

for those that will sand by hand,  very hard job :-\

my rough guess is that , diesel oil on road surface, heating cooling periods "cures" the tire surface so that it starts to shine .. this layer must be removed periodically.. however, I'm not sure of that period as it depends of annual mileage and road conditions

ps: thats valid , if you want always the best grip from your tire not the longest life

Nothing a quick burn out won't cure cem. ;)

I guess winter storage doesn't help?
