After work, OSF disc and pads, and diagnosed a faulty pump for the headlight washers whilst the wheel was off.

Sadly, I've had to order a pump, so will have to take it apart again in a few days.
That Callum chap wouldn't have it any other way ;D
I'm assuming he wasn't responsible for that bit, as it's easy to get to, other than than its quicker to take the wheel off (though probably just about doable without).

One thing I really struggle with on the brakes - and I can't really blame Sir Callum idiothead, as its a fairly standard Teves setup - is the antirattle spring.  The XJ design is more bulky than the usual wire type (which also is a bit of a pain), and always causes much swearing.  Its one of those, you can spend an hour and get nowhere, go have a break, come back and it goes on in 30s!

The ATE set up on the Proper car is much easier... Knock the pins out, pull the pads.

I know this is Audi, but near identical setup:

I can pretty much guarantee he filmed that about a 1000 times, as the bottom pings out and the spring embedded into your face.  I know this, because....

Most Teves use a slightly easier sprung wire that you have to locate in holes on the caliper, still a pain especially with cold hands, but nowhere near as frustrating as the more substantial spring on mine.

Indeed because once the ends of the wire are sort of in the holes and you can smack it home with a club hammer ratchet handle.

The F has the ATE type big spring (and they are big callipers on 380mm discs!), its a job I actually wear safety specs for!

Note ATE and Teves are now the same company under Conti

I have this type on my A6. When removing the spring, you have to wear a riot shield and rig up a catch net. It’s either that or having to ask your neighbour if you can have your spring back where it’s flown across his garden.  ;D
I have painted lacquered calipers with decals on so when I’m putting the spring back on I have to be careful of the paint.  ::)

It’s just ‘drive without labouring the engine and avoid full throttle for the first five miles’ now isn’t it.  :-\  ::)
You must have bazzy painted calipers on your beast Opti. I’m guessing the blue M Performance ones.

The amount of miles I seem to do on a space saver and it's 50mph limit, I need one of those stickers myself!

I started putty on the full goggles type, as not sure my plastic safety glasses would stop it!  Trouble is, they steam up to easily :(

I might get a full safety mask, as that spring in the chops does smart a bit.
