I've got a facelift 1.9CDTi Signum Elite and think it's great as a family motor.  2 very comfortable kids in the back - proper reclining seats (instead of the traditional 'bench' approach) and they slide back and forth.  If you occasionally need to move a 5th person around one of the kids are quite happy in the centre seat with it's proper 3 point belt - officially it has a 75kg limit, and it sits high so not really suitable for an adult.

Boot space is good because you can slide the back seats forward - so you either have a cavernous back seat space and a good size boot, or a masive boot and less back seat leg room.  Not many hatches around that offer that flexibility.  I don't have the travel assistant thing but they pop up regular on ebay for £50.  Mine does have sat nav, auto lights/wipers etc.  On a run I get about 45-50mpg.

It's not as well built as an omega (what vauxhall is these days?) and it has it's issues but I've been pleased with mine.

After much research I got one of these for my son on the basis of cost vs spec.  I have to say I've been very pleased with it.  Many cheaper tablets don't handle things like iplayer & you tube very well but this has no problems at all.

General Car Chat / Re: Pre 1960 cars will become MOT exempt

MOT on my spitfire is critical to me - it prioritises my long welding list!   ;D

I can't see the value in getting rid of the MOT because even though I suspect the real enthusiasts will do the right thing and have more knowledge of their car than the tester, there will always be those that think it's a licence to not keep things to a roadworthy standard and get get away with what they can.

Omega General Help / Re: HAS ANYONE HAD THIS PROBLEM
« on: 15 May 2012, 12:22:50 »
Symptoms sound exactly the same as mine, also an AR25 - if I remember correctly (MDTM may remember) tech 2 said torque convertor solenoid and low voltage codes.

I dropped the sumps (no thrust washer bits), removed and cleaned the torque convertor solenoid, refilled with clean fluid and checked & cleaned all electrical connections.  All this made no real difference.

My last thought was an alternator issue as I was getting the pulsing/dimming dash lights

General Car Chat / Re: Cheers, Autoglass ...
« on: 10 May 2012, 13:37:47 »
I had Autoglass out yesterday to re-fit a screen in my Calibra after the first monkey used so much glue he'd stuck the glass to the interior trim.  The car groaned in pain over every tiny hump or bump.

Useless.

what are you/have you replaced it with?

Signum 1.9 CDTi (150) Elite

10
I sold mine..... :'(

Stings like a sonofabitch but given you washed it out immediately I doubt there's any harm done long term ;)

(Top tip: Petrol also burns like you wouldn't believe in your eyes! And while we're on safety tips: Brake cleaner is not a substitute for swarfega, no matter how many times I might have used it to clean my hands  :-[ Oh and some cleaners decompose to toxic phosgene gas when heated - thread on that here recently - fatal in microscopic doses..)

And the same is generated if you smoke close to an air outlet from a swimming baths....

As above - I'm looking for the set of switches for electric windows/mirrors which sit in the drivers door of a facelift model.  Must be good condition.

Thanks!

I think we should have a whip-round and park it on his drive

Indeed re-heated rice will be full of aflotoxins, be careful with that one.

As for beef - the reduced stuff is the best, it's only a bit of oxidation.  You would normally pay a premium for well hung meat!
