Omega General Help / Re: Rear Spring Change
« on: 15 June 2008, 21:56:00 »
Did the same thing yesterday.  Mine was broken farther up, so I was able to replace it without lowering the diff.  Ditto on not doing it without advice from others here!  :y

Thanks guys.  The second one isn't such a rush, car is running again.  If there's a mini-meet coming up please keep me posted though.

Well, when needs must . . .

. . . it's back on the road.  Broken spring replaced with a new one.  Managed to trash a spring compressor somehow, but did it by myself with only disconnecting the swaybar and the damper.

Still have 2 more spring compressors, but other spring will have to wait.  Maybe when I do the rear bushes, someday.  ::)

I have a second hand spring in the garage plus my local factors do them new and are open all weekend.
Cheers!  I'll give them a call and see.

The how to is for rear dampers.  Does the arm drop enough if you disconnect the damper to get the spring in?

(Got your text.  Cheers!)
They close at 1pm, but that's just enough time to get there.  41 quid each, 2 in stock.  I'm surprised!

Not that expensive Motor factor should have then
Need to do both side.
Would'nt use a used one.
Think there is a "how to"
Thanks, I'll take a look.  Hadn't heard of it being a common problem.

Everything probably shuts in 15 minutes, being the UK, so I guess I'm done working on it today.   :-/

Omega General Help / Broken Spring!
« on: 14 June 2008, 11:10:09 »
Wasn't expecting that!  Last car I had do this to me was a 1982 model, really thought they were better at designing these things by the late nineties.  :-?

Anywho, the car still drove home.  It is a rear spring.  Can I do this on the drive, dropping the damper?  Anyone got a spring?  Available today, not too far from Coventry?  Pretty please?

Cheers.

the 4pots rarely go above 90.

My 2.2 has never gone above 85 in months.

Only time i have got it to 90 is when i have been blasting it :)
Sounds about right.  ;D ;D

My V6 goes 100+ easily.  :P

E10 I think.  Need to have 1/4" drive, and it is one size above what is usually available as 1/4" drive.  >:(

8mm socket will also work IF they aren't rusted in, and then it just rounds them off.  If you can get a couple of the bolts out and you're stuck you can gently break it out with a pry bar.  The plastic is very weak, just be careful what you use as a fulcrum point.

Omega have only TC
back tracsion sistem optimize..not ESP... ;)
I agree.  But could be classed as a very simple stability system, as it does apply brakes to rear wheels (post 98).

But without steering and direction sensors, cannot be classed as a true ESP.
I think some manufacturers call that EDL, electronic diff lock?  A more advanced TC, but not really stability control.  Friggin dangerous on a powerful FWD is what it is!  Melt your brakes coming out of one roundabout and find that you have none left at the next roundabout!  >:(

How can you tell if your car has ESP. I've seen loads of facelifts on ebay that say they have ESP and I'm wondering if my Elite has it.

Asked VX and they said they don't know since it doesn't show up on their EPC when they type my reg in.
You walk up to it on a cold morning and it is sitting there idling, nice and warm?  ::)
I'll fetch ya coat....
Gen chat boring tonight.  :-/

And I'm all wired.  8-)
