General Car Chat / Breakdown / Recovery Peeps? AA/RAC/GreenFlag?
« on: 11 February 2010, 21:31:01 »
Hi all,

Just got a renewal for my breakdown cover from AA for £58 which is the basic of the basic cover so doesn't seem great value.

However, I NEED cover for me as a person, rather than the car as it's to go on two cars.

Anyone any recommendations at all?

Cheers,
James

They'll give me good money for my Veyron, shame it's just a crappy picture I drew on the back of the gas bill.

Still, I'll enjoy spending the cash!

This is how it works...

1). Webuyanycar give you an over-inflated price online.
2). You say 'great' and hop in the car
3). You drive to Car Craft (hmmm)
4). They appraise the car and off something close to that as a deposit on one of their cars
5). You say "I want the money"
6). They evaluate the car further, the price for cash drops to something insulting, all the time you are fending off over-eager salesmen trying to flog you one of their cars (on credit).

Chance of leaving with any money at all?  Slim.

Chance of wanting to shovel someone in the head within minutes of arriving?  Very high.

I'd go for it if it stays at a decent price, but it being ex police could mean lots of damaged small bits of interior trim and sometimes you'll find the roof badly painted over.

Is there the option to go and see it?  You'd be best doing that if you're serious about it.

Cheers,
James

You're about right there really, the idle speed valve allows a greater or lesser amount of air in based on feedback from the ECU.  This keeps the idle speed steady in varying conditions.  You'll notice that the valve is never fully closed at it's default point too.  If yours is properly 'shut' when inactive, there's something wrong with it.

James

You shouldn't have taken the vouchers, because you don't need them.

People seem to forget that these things are supposed to be there for those that need them.  Does it not sit slightly uncomfortably that it's money that perhaps should have gone to someone who DID need the help?

Just a thought....

Try a detect and repair from the Help menu.

Or register for a googlemail account ;)

I know that garage well, they do tend to overprice their cars and MAY respond to a bit of haggling, but in my opinion that's crazy money for that car.

If only they could fix the 'form spoofing detected' error I keep getting.

Anyway, bed time for me.  Night all :)

Gotta agree with KillerWatt here, always worth getting a decent soldering iron - especially one with replaceable tips.

Given that a decent one isn't expensive, buying cheap is a bit of a false economy.

Cheers!

It's a bit of a faff to use, but Parkers guide website will tell you the IG of any car, under the 'facts and figures' section.

Another vote for avast here, just switched to it from AVG on Windows 7 and it feels a lot faster!

I build PC's week in, week out and although they almost never have dedicated graphics, we've had some cheapo Radeon cards in this week and they are fantastic!  You're running a very high res, so you'll need a bit of beef but I think the cards you've mentioned will do the job admirably.

It's amazing what you can get for a little cash these days.
