Omega General Help / Re: Omega Oil Cooler
« on: 25 March 2008, 15:11:39 »
Although i do agree that if you can get away without using the car then dont, but i used my omega with a busted oil cooler for about 2 weeks and my car is o.k, this might have been more luck than judgement :P but if i didnt have the car i couldnt work so i didnt have a choice. Good luck too if your gunna replace it yourself too mine was a pain in the ass  ;D ;D ;D

i beleive the engines are identical apart from the air inlets (which are swapped over anyway)

lots of people have done this conversion

Oh right didnt know that, just thought because one engine is transverse and the other is longtiudidal ( i cant spell!) it wouldnt work. But if its a popular conversion then it must work, interesting that as a mate of mine has bought a vectra gsi that needs a new engine i'll have to let him know  :y

What year is the omega? Also the vectra is front wheel drive and omegas are rear wheel drive,so is it the whole engine swop or just the block?

Omega General Help / Re: Central locking issues
« on: 11 March 2008, 16:29:03 »
This must be a common problem as my 98 elite does this too but only on the 2 front doors and i've heard of others on this forum too  :-/

I was told that the grease in the actuator inside the door hardens up and stops or slows the door rod moving up and down, this is made worst by cold weather. A quick fix to try is take the door card off and squirt WD40 into the actuator and door mechs. I did this on my omega it took a couple of hours to soak in but seems to be working fine now  :y

Omega General Help / More central locking problems
« on: 06 March 2008, 00:06:23 »
Posted on here a few days ago that my central locking on the 2 front doors was playing up working on and off,but now but front doors wont lock or unlock with the remote or by using the key but the 2 rear doors and boot are fine with the remote and by using the key in the drivers door, it just seems odd to me that both doors would pack up at the same time  :-? Had some advice that sometimes the grease inside the door on the locking mech in cold weather hardens up so the motor cant move the rods up and down so took door cards off wd40 them but still nothing  >:(  Am i just unlucky here that both front door motors have packed up at the same time  :'( or is there something else?

Tried davec's idea of spraying wd40 into the locking actuator gave everything a wiggle made sure everything was plugged in but its not playing the game, it will lock with the key but not the remote its both front doors are doing it now, the rear doors and boot are fine they lock with the remote but got to manually lock the 2 front doors  >:( is this 2 new locking motors or something else that i dont know about i throw myself to your wisdom  :y

We did Paul W's at Telford last week, his was sticking open... door card off, sprat WD40 nor Silicone spray down into the actuator...  the original grease goes hard.. the problem is more evident in colder weather... :y

That is right actually it only seems to happen when its colder coz it did it last winter too. I'll give that a try thanks  :y

Omega General Help / Central locking
« on: 02 March 2008, 17:42:14 »
Probably a common question as i've known a few omega's to do it, but is there any way to reset the central locking? Every now and again the driver's door will lock on the button but not unlock with the remote or it will do it the other way round and then the front passenger door will do the same but not at the same time as the drivers door its as if they take turns to mess me about ;D Its only the 2 front doors the other doors and boot are fine

Omega General Help / Abs pump/ecu
« on: 27 February 2008, 01:22:53 »
Just after a bit of advice really or just a fresh train of thought from somebody, i have a 98 3.0 elite with the common abs ecu problem (abs light,no speedo) trying to figure out how to go about it, No 1 remove old ecu replace with new ecu (well one from a breakers) then get the new ecu coded by tech2 mobile mechanic. or No 2 remove ecu from car send it away get it repaired then just plug it in and its sorted, problem with this option is the car is off the road for 2-3 days as opposed to getting it done in one day. :-?  Also is it best to try and take the ecu off whilst leaving the abs modulator bolted to the car thus not removing the brake pipes,or take the whole thing out and then remove the ecu i've been given the pluses and minus'es to both ways by mates but hoping for some superior knowledge from you guys ;)

Omega General Help / Re: Cylinder Head? Fan? Temp Gauge Sender?
« on: 26 February 2008, 14:39:25 »
Although its still possible its the head gasket i'd be surprised at the mileage your car has done, but the classic signs of a headgasket leaking are water in the oil which will make a white/yellow sludge under the oil filler cap also check the dip stick for signs. But in answer to the question of changing the headgasket yourself it is possible yourself and i'm sure there is a "how to" guide somewhere on this forum.  :y

« on: 25 February 2008, 17:15:18 »
My car is a 98 on a S and i have that problem with my car abs light on and no speedo almost definatly the ecu. If you do a search on ebay in car parts section just type in vauxhall abs ecu it will bring up the company that re-furb them, only problem it takes a couple of days

Omega General Help / Re: Oil cooler replacement
« on: 25 February 2008, 17:26:37 »
Just to let you all know that replied (again thanks) a mechanic freind of mine is gunna help me replace the oil cooler, didnt fancy doing it blind! Also just out of interest i popped into another local vauxhall garage for a  quote and it was  £500 all in with a courtesy car, also with new plugs, new thermastat the lot, this i know is still more exspensive than the d.i.y route but still £1500 down to £500 thats a big difference, and when i told them about the take the engine and heads out bit they had a good laugh  ;D

It just gets better, the garage that quoted me £1500 phoned me and asked me if i wanted to go ahead with the oil cooler replacement and then explained what needed doing this includes both heads being removed and sent away to be skimmed, new head gaskets and a new cam belt, and then told me it was so exspensive because the whole engine had to be taken out of the car to complete the work!!! Having read the how to guides on the forum i knew this to be a joke un-believable. So thanks to all that replied you saved me a bundle

Omega General Help / Oil cooler replacement
« on: 22 February 2008, 16:59:19 »
I posted on here yesterday about my oil cooler problem everyone was very helpful thank you. Had a quote from my local "independant" vauxhall garage and they've quoted me £1500!!!!! which is mental the oil cooler itself only costs £100 so gunna do it myself the only thing i wanted to check is the garage told me that the heads have to be taken off to replace the oil cooler but my haynes manuel and the "how to" forums i've read mention nothing about removing the heads so wondered which is right? Sorry forgot to mention this is on a 3.0 V6 omega estate
