Top guy Mark
Agreed, people who give up their day, put themselves out, drive a considerable distance to help out others without wanting anything in return, are very special people in my book.
So a huge thanks to those experts who turned up just to help out - Marks_DTM, Laidback, and JamesV6CDX - they were the guys that made it happen. Top guys indeed.

Despite my Car's obstinate intransigence, a million thanks again and again to all concerned.,...
it exhibited more weird behaviour on the way home as well, but it did GET home.... without masses of additional coolant....
The header tank , and much of the off side pipe work, like that to the throttle body is staying almost stone cold.. de-pressurising and squidging the passenger side top hose to move coolant seemed to make a difference.. ... we (kev baz and I) theorised it's probably an air lock somewhere... possibly relating to James's theory about the transfer hose and thermostat.
the temperature gauge gets to about 94 whilst driving (Cap on this time!) but starts to drift upwards if it spends any time stationary...and isn't keen on coming back down quickly...
While reading sat nav manual this afternoon, i found an additional service history sheet, that makes it more unlikely to be the heads, one would hope. .. as it had new heads at 60K due to cambelt failure. then another cambelt (but no tensioner) at 82,000)
the "real" mileage now is about 110K (the instrument cluster in there is a temporary ebay replacement as the control board failed on the original , it hasn't really done 175K)
Once again, a bazillion thanks to all.... hope no one got food poisoning

I'll start a new thread about all that once I've been able to more carefully observe and document it's behaviour.
Jaime, I did leave a load of stuff at your place mate.... if it's okay I'll get it during the week..... My legs are too damn sore to do the clutch in the 106 today... Hopefully we didn't wreck the place too much.... and Mrs TB isn't too hard on you.... hope the Spine improves rapidly mate. A standing ovation for hosting such an event at your place, One hope the neighbours eventually forgive you.... and thanks for whacking the wipers back on mate

Dave (LB66) i have a nagging feeling I owe you for the brake shoes as well as the water pump. Pm me the details . I'll get those Sennheisers off to you ASAP along with any balance I owe you., A million thanks for your tireless efforts on everyone's behlaf,... but especially mine.
Mark, what can I say, mere words cannot express the debt of gratitude we all, but especially myself, owe you... Next time we're going to have to lay on a swedish masseuse and limo transport .
Tunnie, you deserve at least as much credit as the admin team... donating space and Mother tunnie's catering, and your invaluable assistance the night before ....
and also, on behalf of everyone, JamesV6CDX.... a complete star
in fact everyone there went above and beyond the call of duty , never have i really seen such a collective spirit of camaraderie and genuine desire to contribute to the well being of others . Thank you all, and I hope to see you all again.
I will be hosting an event here at my place in a month or two.... expect an even bigger , more organised and balanced BBQ

Best regards , and many many thanks to all .
Max
