If the worst comes to the worst and you need a lift I'm coming past Oxford on the A34 Saturday AM.

Hope you get it sorted though.

Just a thought but if its a 3.0 Elite it will be an Auto so you will have to unbolt the prop shaft before towing it any distance.

Damn it i never even thought of that...... ( lack of practice....   )

I'm now contemplating fitting a swimming pool in the back, and hooking it up to the coolant system to make sure it has sufficient coolant to get to Brackley.

Sod it I'm going to bed., Editing is too much like hard work when your mind is elsewhere.

I've dropped Cornishtaz a line about the tow bar...

What are the limits on towing an auto actually??   would it need to be done in stages..?

Alternatively, If I fill a load of bottles....   maybe I could go the back way... and stop every 5 miles to fill up ....

the trouble is , if it gets worse, I'm screwed...

NOW i know why it was a dumb idea to let green flag lapse this year......

How about driving steadily with the header tank cap off?

This will stop the system pressurising and may well make it easier to get it to Brackley.

You can tow an auto 50 miles at 50mph without problems.........

The old header tank trick works, leave the cap loose so it doesn't pressurise....and check the level regularly.

This is an extract from the owners manual

with automatic transmission - place selector lever in "N". Vehicles with automatic transmission should not to be towed faster than 50mph or further than 60 miles. If the transmission is defective, or if this speed/distance is to be exceeded, the driveshaft must be disconnected from the rear axle.

Max V6

It seems a shame that you cannot get your Megga over to the event - especially so as it would appear that it was for you in the first place!!

However, I have a towing rod.  Although I am going to the V6 event, this is only for a diagnostic check and gearbox update and to meet those there.

I would be more than willing to tow you to the event with my tow rod and Transit (don't really want to tow with the Megga).

If you want to do this, then let me know and we can sort something out.

I am not too concerned about the diagnose and gearbox - I am sure that I can get this done some other time :)

Also, if you would rather disconnect the prop, then I will happily help you out here.  However, with the Transit, there is not much chance of getting over 55MPH!
