Finally replaced the noisy OSR wheel bearing.
What a fun job that is.
The play in the bearing took the lining off one of the handbrake shoes, so I had to get new ones.
Then after adjusting(with a file) a Mini flywheel puller, I removed the drive flange. That was easy, I thought.
Much swearing and hammering and prying and bending of bolts did not manage to shift the hub.
So I did what I should have in the first place, and cobbled together an extractor out of a length of scrap tubing, some steel bar, an M16 nut and bolt and a steel disc that has already had 3 similar jobs. It took longer to get the welder out than it did to weld that little lot together.
30 seconds after bolting the device in place I had the hub in my hand, complete with the damaged inner race.
That was removed by cutting a thin slit with a Dremel and a couple of whacks with a cold chisel.
Removing the circlip required similar surgery.
I used a generic bearing puller to remove the knackered bearing , and fit the new one. Having left the new bearing in the freezer overnight, it could probably have been knocked in place, but I couldn't see the point in risking it.
I pulled the hub back through the bearing with a selection of spacers(mostly old bearing races kept for just such a job) and a cordless nut gun on the fixing nut.
After that, it was simple reassembly, and my car is quiet again.
