A bit of welding, rear caliper change and a check over for water leaks on a members car.
Has he finally vented the rear brakes on that poor car... ;D
No, of course not. Why do you think vented are needed  :-\
Why do you think they aren't?

Unless making excessive use of TC, I have no problem with the rears overheating  ???.  Fronts, yes I can see a potential reason if you drive like Mr Gixer everywhere, but not rears  :-\

How many calipers have you welded up this year ::) Would have thought more thermally efficient rears would take some of the strain from the fronts :-\

Only that seized one due to a failed seal  :-\.  The fronts get pretty warm on a spirited run, but how will fitting vented rears help? The rears are not overheating (when working as they should, lets ignore the seized bit for now ::)).

Ok to turn that around, when the fronts are cooked to buggery, the rears are all that's left... seized bits notwithstanding ::)

I'm clearly misunderstanding  :-\. If the fronts are that spent the rears, no matter how powerful or their cooling capacity, aren't going to stop you....

They have more effect than you think, as fitting Oe rears once pointed out to me.

So I take it you don't think over heating rears cooked the grease in the calipers to cause the seizure? Presumably the boot was split? How did that happen?

A vented calliper is not going to provide a more powerful braking force. It provides better cooling of said brake.  I am not cooking rears. Lend me you mallet, and you and Al line up for a thwacking.

Not aware of any grease in rears, but a high temp grease would be used anyway. So No.

Presumably the boot was split? How did that happen?
I'm guessing that these things happen after 16 years, 218k.  Or should all car bits last forever?

The 3.2 calipers do have a greater piston diameter, which iirc equates to a greater piston area and therefore more produce more breaking force :-\

Ok an extra 2mm of diameter won't set the world (or brakes) on fire, but it's there for a reason :y

So you don't think the extra heat of a non vented disc would transfer through the pad to the piston and its seal, cook and split the seal, leat water in, and seize the caliper...?

Although 217k isn't bad going. How many of those in your ownership though?

I guess an autopsy on the caliper will tell. :)

....and get your own mallet. :P
