HGs are rare to go on miggys. More like to have it corrode away until its just the fire rings but these normally are bullet proof.  My fear is maybe the head itself :'(
Thanks for the advice will only know when I get the heads off and check them that will give the ultimate answer. Cheers :y

Why the head?

My first Omega was a 2.5 V6 and that suffered a head gasket failure at the rear of bank 2. I was expecting to find a leaking core plug as the coolant appeared to be leaking from behind the ignition coil bracket.

Fitted a new (autodimming Vectra C) rear view mirror. This would have been easier were there not a load of black sillycone sealant dolloped about the place by the Autoglass monkeys who in spite of my explicit instructions 'do not attempt to fit the rear view mirror' they did, it fell off, so they tried to glue it in place!  ::)

Just saying that it is very rare for the fire rings to go on a miggy engine.  More common for leaks toward the exterior like you (and I) had in the past.  I have seen various HGs completely corroded to the point where just the fire ring are left but they were intact.  Which is why I would be questioning the block unless on strip down there was clear evidence of a leak through the HG. :y

New coolant bottle - I can now see what's in there
Changed oil and filter element - Someone has a significantly different impression of 15NM to mine ::)
Checked atf level - Filter and fluid change now moved up the to do list.

Some say(top gear mode on)that HID bulbs lose around 10% efficiency per year which must be 'dangle berries' as they wouldn't work after ten years would they ??? :D :D ;)

mathematically incorrect statement I'm afraid .. even loosing 10% a year they would last forever .. although very inefficient after a few years ...

Year 1 100% lose 10% (10) becomes
Year 2 90 % lose 10%  (9) becomes
Year 3 81 % lose 10%  (8.1) becomes
Year 3 72.9 % lose 10% (7.29) becomes
year 4 65.61 % lose 10% (6.51) becomes
year 5 59.04

etc
etc
etc

and NEVER reaches zero

Now that I've seen first hand the difference I would recommend changing them, not for cheap Chinese ones as some would recommend  ::), I highly doubt I'd have bought them at the original VX RRP price though. £109 each or that could have been for two bulbs not 100% sure, that's without TC.. Sure Taxi Al said he got some cheap Osram from somewhere though..

Only thing to do now is find some replacements for the main beam they are looking far too yellow!

Don't suppose you can get more at the price you sourced them for?

I've never really had any issues with ECP
