And...........

Finally replaced the bonnet struts on my 2.5 Elite after the bonnet nearly took my head off. :o

With the new ones fitted (a 10 minute job) the bonnet now behaves itself and securely locks itself in the upright position.

Should have done this years ago.  :-[

Yes, it's well worth spending the £25ish to fix the problem permanently.
The estate tailgate is bloody heavy when the struts fail; fortunately(and oddly considering the size of them) new struts are £12 a pair.

They take of dirt and lacquer in equal measures.I would rather leave the car dirty than let them anywhere near it.
Your ancient omega has got no lacquer left, so no worries.

Watched that nice Mr DTM fella replace 2 springs that didn't need changing, and not even attempt the CV boot.

Christ knows what the hell I was smoking last year when I ordered this stuff  :-[

As always, thanks Marks DTM.

No problem, pop up anytime you have some random serviceable parts which you fancy swapping out for new for no reason  ;D ;D :y

Just got off a team call, and they wanted to know how I got on yesterday evening - they knew what was going on, as I'd had to finish early.

The bastids are still laughing  >:(

Oh, and the A43 was shut on the way home, just to add insult...

...not bloody notices of closures for yesterday on the big signs they have up everywhere. Grrrr.

And yet another job I have put off for years!!

Swapped my brown stained coolant reservoir (the original from 1999) for a "good as new" replacement from my local scrapyard.

Took me 10 mins to do and I can now see the coolant level again :y

Just a lazy central locking solenoid to sort out for another day (raining now).

I have been welding. Lots of welding.  :).................welding a nice bead on a piece of metal on the bench is one thing. Welding plates on the underside of a car with it jacked up a bit is another thing entirely. I'm reasonably confident that after a little quite a bit of tidying up with a grinding disc will make it good enough for the MOT man.
Hope to finish the old Merc tomorrow and then get onto changing the droplinks on the omega, in the hope it will cure the front end knock.

Also refurbed one of my key fobs. The rubber casing was badly worn, so got a new one from ebay for £3 and swapped the bits over.
Good as new now.  :)

Obviously angered the tester by not bringing a broom to sweep up afterwards. :-X
