If searching/controlling tracks is an issue during driving, you could use Siri. I use this as a car audio system. Eg Say "Hey Siri" and the phone picks it up and allows me to voice dial/control things. I'm doing this directly with the phone, not via the cars on-board systems
I think Shack's iPhone is too old, as Hey Siri needs 6S or later.
Also, this doesn't work if phone is in pocket/bag etc. If you put it on the dash, it really then needs to be in a cradle, else you're in that grey area.
Ideally, as Shack says, needs a firmware update on the in car entertainment system, though I fear this issue will never be fixed.
Shack, traditionally, on Mundanos, there is a 3.5mm aux socket at top of glovebox, but your manual will tell you where exactly. This is the easiest way of getting music in, but means connecting a cable. Similar, by wireless, is as tunnie said, Bluetooth streaming, but that may be dependent on if your car supports that without flicking to Carplay. Both options, unfortunately, involve controlling what album is played from the phone.
Sometimes, the old technologies (ie, CDs) is so much easier than all this modern fangled tosh
