Fifth year service on the Z today, worn brake pads all round (they get flagged up when there`s "only" 30% pad left) and tyres, all of which I am aware of  :)

Only fly in the ointment is a suspected collapsed catalytic converter  >:(

Took it to the garage....the brakes snatch when breaking at 30/40mph and I get steering wheel shake if I brake at 70mph.

I knew what they were going to say.....so its going in on Sat for new front disks and pads....

Not a had a car in long time that the disks had be changed because of warping but doubt the disks are original as there not much of a lip on them.....

Worn suspension bushes are just as likely.

Thankyou never realised....I will get the garage to check that  :y

It was the disks, well one disk. NS span fine by hand, but the OS had a wobble of about 1mm.

New disks and pads and braking is back to normal  :y
That's to be expected with cheap (ie, Mintex, Apec, Brembo and unbranded shite) discs.  Always false economy IMHO.

On the 3.2: New brake pads on the front, along with fluid change and new air filter. All GM stuff I had in the garage, which I'd forgotten about. Might as well stick it all on.

For the VW: Near rear shocks, rear discs and pads.

Also managed to enable voice commands for the radio in the VW, I was watching some reviews on the USA Passat which showed voice commands. The radio is same as mine (RNS 315) which is fitted to loads of the VAG range, bit of research suggested in the UK they disable voice.  :-\

Thought VCDS/VAGCOM I was able to enable the PTT button on the steering wheel, which previously only muted the music/radio. I then enabled voice in the navigation unit, initially thought it had failed but reboot it and new button on the radio screen. Also microphone button on steering wheel can now trigger it.

Looks like it does phone, bluetooth and some music controls, I'll have a play with this on the way to work on Monday.

Maybe very good legal reasons for this...

Don't know what make was on there, I've never changed them before, was on the car already. But they have done 60k miles in my time....so not bad really...

Wonder if never programmed for proper English, only Yankie English, hence disabled over here?

I like the voice system in mine, saves a lot of fart arsing around in fiddly menus.

Not had a decent play yet, it appears it was standard on RNS 515 which is the bigger/premium version.

I don't think it's anyway near Jag level, have to test it.

Fitted a new adjuster to a headlight that i'll swap at some later date... one when it's not raining.

Started on a cupholder modification that'll either work well or be a total disaster  :D

Last Friday I drove my Caravan more than 500 miles to Berlin. My mum lives there, I had to solve some problems. I returned today. My 97 Caravan did a great job. Like always.....

100 miles per hour average by nightride.....still possible  ;)

It will be the p420 codes, the pre-cats becoming less efficient. There fix is to move the sensors post main cat, this resolves the issue  :y

According to some on here, a tankful of Shell VPower and an Italian tune up may turn it off......for a (short) while.

The code can be cleared and the light turned off with a code reader, but it will always come back.
Options are - move the lamdas as Tunnie said.
Remove the bulb, if it annoys you, although you may well need to replace it and clear the code just before you take it for MOT.
Keep clearing the code every time the light appears.
Shell V power or similar and a sound thrashing just before MOT and ignore it the rest of the time.

I have gone for option 2 so far, but may move the Lamdas at some point.
