HI TO ALL , IM A NEW GUY HERE AND HAVING A BAD DAY !

OK FIRST OF I WENT TO DEPTFORD CAR AUCTION TODAY AND BROUGHT MY SELF A PERFECT EXAMPLE OF THE V OMEGA 2L AUTO, ALL THE BELLS AND WHISTLES IN A DARK GREY COLOUR,,, PAID 419 POUNDS AND WAS WELL HAPPY    AFTER BIDDING ON ALL OTHER CARS I COLLECTED KEYS AND STARTED HER UP AND SOUNDED NICE AND QUIET , THEN PUT HER INTO DRIVE AND TO MY SURPRISE NOTHING HAPPENED GRRRRR   NOTHING IN DRIVE 1 2 3 OR REVERSE, GUTTED THB. ESP AS IT WAS SOLD AS SEEN, ANY WAY MY MATE PUSHED ME AND IT CAUGHT A GEAR IN DRIVE BUT LASTED 10 TO 20 YARDS, IVE SPOKEN TO A FEW GUYS IN THE CAR TRADE SAYING IT MAY BE LOW OIL SO I HAD A PEEK IN A HAYNES MANUAL (cheers halfords) and kinda see where the top up plug is. so got some transmission oil and of i went back to the car and undone the 13mm bolt on drivers side and it pissed out oil so i pressumed it had plenty in there pressuming i got the right bolt. some one else said it could be clutch belt !!! never heard of that so not sure as im no mechanic. so before i spend any more time outside in the freezing snow i thought id give this a try so any replys will be very great full. oh i also had few quotes on secound hand box and there around 150 to 175, if it is the box are there any threads to explain how to change a box over and pics would be great to,,, many thanks    steve

Do the lights next to the gearstick light up as expected?


Worse case, change the gearbox.  They are common enough - breakers on this site may be able to supply - and not that hard to change (extra pair of hands helps!)

yes all lights work, is 150 175 a good price ! any threads on this problem or box change

I wouldn't pay more than £40-50 for a 2nd hand AR25...

Note aware of any guides (feel free to do one when you do yours )

its kinda:
drop prop
unplug all gearbox electrics
undo all 6 (3 on TD) bolts holding TC to driveplate
undo bellhousing
pull box back, then lower


Refit is reverse method, but ensure that TC is fully engaged in gearbox first.

It will if the engine is not running... there is a right way and a wrong way to check the level .. you did it the wrong way .. and now it IS low on ATF !!!!




Top it up with oil PROPERLY !!!

ok i undone the plug but it seems like i undone the drain plug not the filler plug as wen i undone the 13mm bolt it poured out alot. prob about 1 half liters, sorry to sound dum but as i stated im not a mechanic but not wanna get to involved if the box dont need changing. so let me get this right the filler bolt is on drivers side about 2 - 3 inchs high from bottom of g box sump ?? is there not a dip stick you can check or is it fill up till it leaks out ! but would this not make gear box work? also is it poss to do a test like you do on ecu as on dash it says automatic gearbox     thanks again guys

oh and yes i checked fuses next to battery and under steering wheel and yes engine was running for about 15 mins before i undone the bolt

One and the same thing, and no dipstick. Ideally need gearbox codes read with a decent reader. As asked previous, do the gear selector lights illuminate as you select each gear or do they all come on at once or don`t they come on at all?

There is no drain plug .. you undid the filler plug with the engine not running .. therefore ATF came out ...

The Autobox is filled/checked WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING ...

but the essence is .. with the car level in both fore/aft and side-to-side, and the engine running, after cycling through all the gears, the box should be filled until fluid just begins to run from the filler.

If the engine is not running the pumps are not turning and all the fluid sits in the sump.

i retry in morning but thinking of giving rac a call out to see what there verdict is, thing is the guy deff drove it to the auction unless he blaggin it, and thinking about it im sure all lights was on not one per gear selection ,,, is this a common problem with the auto box?  typical as i never had a auto in 13 years and this happens   lol

Correct .. low ATF = no movement   as it is the fluid that provides the drive ..

Indicative of faulty/dirty selector switch http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1231586488/10 but your problems sound a bit more drastic (hopefully not, maybe just lack of ATF). Usually with a faulty switch gearbox will enter "limp mode" but you can still manually select two forward gears.

ok so if i need a new box has any1 any ideas as to where i should source 1 from as i not want to get mugged any more , but i will call rac tomoz and see what they say as im sure there look at fluid,,,, take it paper clip test is not any good?
