General Discussion Area / UShip
« on: 21 May 2014, 12:08:06 »
First experience of these transport 'bidding' services, have to say quite impressed.

We wanted a Sofa, 2 arm chairs and few other things shipped from Wales to here, I looked at various options, using cars, trailers ect. But settled on UShip, I posted up the items (size/weight/ect)

Then said where to and from and rough dates (we were flexible) I put it to auction, and some bids came in and the price came down, in the end I paid £52. Not bad I thought  :y

Man with Van type business turned up, all very professional and good communication, texting me when picking things up and when he was 30 mins away.

Can reccomend it for anyone wanting to ship large car bits at a cut down price  :y

Most appear to agree on their own forum, that it's expensive compared other makes and high dealer costs.  :'(

Short service intervals and high use of friction parts, booooo!  :(

General Car Chat / Booked in to a Vx dealer....
« on: 14 May 2014, 09:43:20 »
So the 3.2's climate is on the blink again, last year had it gassed back near my parents. It still had gas in the system at the time (I was told) - pressure was good? Worked well for the summer.

Now it's warm again, no super cold air  :(

Rang around a few places, prices ranged from KwikKrap's £49.99 to some independents asking £89  :o

Vauxhall Camberley, £59  :y

Could not be more helpful too about sorting a time to come in, I can drop if off Friday evening, for it to be done some time Saturday morning.

Bet it's a while since they have seen an Omega  ;D

General Car Chat / FAO mick-1975 - 2.0/2.2 Exhaust
« on: 10 May 2014, 13:53:13 »
Mick just collected the exhaust I had going spare, it was an Eternal 2.0/2.2 system.

It has the single centre section and back box. Mick was a bit concerned as 2.2 from the factory has twin centre parts, but me and many others run the 2.0 style, with just a single centre on the 2.2's without issue.

My 2.2 has had a single centre section for the past few years and countless miles, without a problem. I think RobG and a few others have done the same.

Just wanted to make a public post, for others to confirm I'm not telling porkies & the 2.0 system is fine on the 2.2  :y :y

General Discussion Area / Selling a Caravan
« on: 09 May 2014, 21:20:18 »
So GrandmaT is selling the caravan she had, with the sad loss of GrandpaT there is no longer any need for it. She has got a dealer to sell it for her, but they went ahead without me having a chance to go through the details.

Basically they are selling it on her behalf, but of course take a wacking great big commission. I called a few dealers around here, but none were too interested.

Of course there is eBay, but that has it's usual issues. But it may come to that, if it has too.

So I'm looking at other options for her to get the best value, as it's a very new 'van and looking to get as much money for her as possible.

Any suggestions?

General Car Chat / Did towing rules change?

I passed my test in 2001, I thought I had to take the extended test to tow anything?

Looks like I can tow anything up to 750kgs? (including trailer weight?)

General Discussion Area / Plastering Costs
« on: 05 May 2014, 14:33:16 »
I'm considering getting the walls inside my conservatory plastered, it was added by the previous owner. It's nice, but the exposed brick for me does not make it feel part of the house. I'd like it smooth plastered like the rest.

I'm thinking plaster is better than insulated/boarded?  :-\

Thing is I've no idea for plastering if I'm looking at £2k or £500  :-\  :-[ :-[

Maybe one for AndyRoid to recommend a builder?  :y

Very rough dimensions here:

A being biggest wall against the garage, B the small wall built to accommodate the conservatory and finally C, being the house back wall.

Any thoughts, recommendations/costs welcome  :y :y

General Discussion Area / Pressure Washer Cleaning Fluid
« on: 02 May 2014, 18:50:51 »
Anything special about it? Those little bottles on the end of the pressure jet, can it be any old cleaning fluid?  :-\

Just wondering if I could use mixed screenwash? As I got a bulk load when it was on offer at Eurocarparts, just mix it 1/4 with water. As I've got enough of the stuff.  ;D ;D ;D

It's for cleaning a conservatory roof, which is glass  :y :y

General Discussion Area / Help identifying bulb type
« on: 01 May 2014, 11:26:44 »
So in GrandmaT's back garden she has a PIR light, the bulb blew, so MotherT took it to a light shop in town. Few days later check up, reply is, 'What bulb?'

Said they never had it  >:(

Quite unusual, hence taking it there. For the sparkies on the forum, anyone know the type of bulb for this PIR light? I can't see a model/name on it. Might need to take it off to see that.

Thanks in advance  :y

General Car Chat / What failed for the first time on my 2.2?
« on: 29 April 2014, 18:05:55 »
So I've had my 2.2 since summer 2005, bought it with 80k on the clock, now 171k and 9 years ownership.

Something failed for the first time yesterday, what was it?

So at my new place, there is a lovely brick driveway. Great for cars and walking on, but no so good for service work as the bricks will easily show a small drop of oil  :(

Any suggestions for projecting it? Thinking a sealant first, then some kind of heavy duty sheeting? As I'd be dragging a jack over it, using stands ect.

Anyone else have same problem?

Thanks  :y
