I rode bikes for years before getting a car.

Bikes do take different lines, they need to as a sigle track vehicle.

Bikes generally have lower cornering speeds than quick sports cars but higher acceleration and braking. But a lot does come down to the rider/driver, and the corner. A tight slow corner is not good on a large bike - too much weight to pull down. A good example is a 90 deg I could get the 600 round at around 45, but a 250 and a light short car with wide wheels and rally suspension at 50. Fast open corners a bike can straight line when a car cannot.

On a another corner which was fast the cornering speed was above the maximum speed of my 250s and a Sierra Cosworth trying to keep up was squirming sideways running past his limits.

Riding in blind spots - that is a big complaint, however it is a good location for the bike rider to see past the car for overtaking. This could be improved by dropping back and looking over the top of the car.

Beating traffic jams - why should a motorcycle with its small size and great manouverability suffer because a load of cars are dumped in the way, they get through they get out of the way. Bikes sitting in queues annoy me, they take up too much room slowing the whole queue speed down. I always make room for a bike to go down the middle (DC) or right (SC)

I haven't commuted into a town for years but if I did a powered two wheeler would be purchased.

Bikes are great fun, but you are about 17 times more likely to be killed / seriously injured- nearly been there nearly done that!! Drunk driver hit me on the motorway, stomach and legs run over etc etc. If I had been in a car probably would have no injuries just a bent car. Having said that I really miss riding my bike, they really are great fun- but please don't go out and buy a big sports bike straight off... Oh and buy the most expensive helmet you can afford - saved my bacon!!!

There is also an Egg Run in Massive plus a Toy Run at Christmas :y

As for your little rantings........

I understand what you say about some people on motorbikes going rather fast but i find in the main it is young lads on scooters who think they are Kenny Roberts.....

But as an ex biker, I honestly think that before learning to drive a car, all people should have to ride a motorbike first.. the reason being when you are riding a motorbike the amount of people that pull out on you is unreal... "Oh sorry mate I didn't see you!" even though your headlight was on! they never really looked properly is the real answer.
Now when you have riden a motorbike and your driving a car, you look for motorcyclists .........
;
Or just ban them from our roads  ;D ;D ;D ;D
I know what you mean about them boys on scooters crazy!!! Wouldnt mind opening my door on a few of them ;D

I get the feeling some are biased against bikers. If you take proper notice of what you are taught on the DAS course, and put it into practice, you will not go far wrong. Once you have some experience under your belt go for roadcraft course, which takes you up a level and helps you to read the road and anticipate some of those idiot car drivers turning without signalling etc, or cutting corners on blind bends. There is nothing quite like riding a large motorbike!

Biased against bikers for numerous reasons but here is just one for you. Read link.
http://www.christiantoday.com/article/huge.number.of.bikers.dodging.road.tax/16384.htm

You will always get this argument while bikes are on the roads, and how do you expect us to see you when the majority of you ride round like bloody hooligans, and you moan we come to close to you? Whatever you come close enough to us when your taking are bloody wing mirrors off diving between lanes of traffic, i am sick of seeing signs up saying "think bike" if you didnt ride them like you had just stolen it you would be alright and we would see you. There is no counter argument to this it is known fact you see it everyday motorbikes being rode wrecklessly. Also if your that worried about a car pulling out on you cause they cant see you, dont get on it in the 1st place and you will be alright.

If you want the thrill of going fast go to a race track and do it, its what i do and its a lot safer for both cars and bikes
coming from someone who has a posting of a film of bikers burning a speed camera, titled the most beautiful sight in the world, and an avatar message which says-200mph before you die....words fail me ::)

Just think about how congestion free our Towns Cities and Motorways would be if more people rode bikes! And if all road taxt was abolished, there would be no tax dodgers to worry about. If you have never ridden a big bike you are definitely missing out, especially this time of year when you can smell and feel part of the countryside. Gets you out of your insulated metal box, inwhich you can feel invincible and immune from inflicting pain on bikers.

pfffft nothing wrong with leathers if for bikes :P

well been pricing up stuff...

CBT + DAS = £750...  That includes test, and if I fail the test, then further tuition and test is free :) (they guarantee a pass)
Triumph Speedmaster = £6199 (but I'll want a pillion seat and sissybar with rear shelf), so be a bit more...
Boots = £150 (YOU try finding a cheaper pair which are classic look)
Other leathers (pants and jacket) = arounf £300

So all in I'm easy looking at around £8000 which isn't too bad I think :)  Got 5k already :D  3 more to go...

But I also have insurance and tax due on the Omega come June/August... bah :(

I have worked out why they have a 270 deg crank - to give it a V twin sound, even though it is a parallel twin.

Make sure you visit a Triumph dealer to see one in the metal.

Am I responsible for pointing you towards Triumph?

Good luck anyway

Possibly in some way yes, but I had seen the bonne prior tho, its only after you said I came across the speedmaster :D

I went to a dealer earlier today (hence prices) Bill Smiths in Chester, they had 2 in, 1 in Phantom Black, the other Blue.  Definately prefer the all black bike!

Had a sit on it, got a feel for the position, and well, that sealed the deal for me!  So as soon as I have the licence fully sorted, all the funds, I'll be down there and getting the whole lot!

Yeah I know, it is a bit expensive :S but I'd rather do it here where I know the roads, than somewhere cheaper which I don't know!  Still, considering its free if you fail till you pass, it can't be too bad :)
