Briefly will be ok, if illadvised, provided you order them from VX tomorrow for fitting early next week...

Without, the pads could potentially rock on the pins, causing them to twist and jam. Hence the caveat ;)

Right, they tracked down some 86 x 6mm pins with a 5mm taper (from a Merc)
I'm going to send them a scaled picture of the spring via email and they are going to see if they can make a kit up for OOF members  :y

Hate them sort of prices, especially for something as simple as a bleedin' pin, and a bit of bent metal. At least you can think, 'well the old ones lasted 10-15 years, these, with a coat of copperslip/similar from new, should be the same or more.'

Had to buy a nut for the manifold/exhaust cat section flange - about £7 iirc, because I dropped and lost one on redoing the exhaust. Only to then find the original about 5 mins before I refitted the exhaust a week later.  :D

That's an M10 nut that costs a few pence. Why would you buy an ordinary nut from a dealer????

When I changed my headgaskets last year, I replaced all of the manifold studs, flanged nuts and downpipe nuts for £5.

I keep a stock of nuts, nyloc nuts, washers and bolts in common M6 and M8 sizes so I don't get caught out like that. I buy them from Versatile Fasteners in Gravesend who are industrial suppliers. But, they have a trade counter and will sell any quantity you want, the last 100 M8 nuts I bought cost £2. You shouldn't have any problem finding somewhere similar on a large industrial estate; either have a pattern, or learn the correct terminology and pay cash.

And one more thing, small bought in parts like nuts etc are priced at £7 because it has a noticeable effect on the parts department's profit percentage.

Ah, because, as I think Marks DTM pointed out (when I asked on here 'what size is the nut, please, as I've lost it - and will any old nut do?) that it is actually copper, with a stainless helicoil inside, and a bit specialist. With mental images of the wrong nut/metal fusing to the already-barely accessible manifold in time, I decided as it was a one-off extortionate price I'd pay up and look happy. Also tried as asking for a used on on here for beer money/price of postage, but no V6s being broken that week.  :y

Trust me, I'm the last person to go blindly walking into the dealer and saying 'give me this part, no idea what it is or does, but here is my wallet, good vendor of Automotive Parts. Oh, £7 for a nut... is that a lot?' but as mentioned, was advised on here that it's a bit specialist, so best go genuine Vx. Whether I've done the right or wrong thing, no idea. As I say, by sheer chance I ended up finding the chuffin nut the day of refitting, so all academic.  :D

Was the new one the massively over-engineered part you paid for? My original ones can't have been, as they were flanged steel nuts with an undersized hexhead - 15mm rather than the 17 for a normal M10. They looked so grotty, and had made such a racket undoing that I filed them in the bin. The replacements are standard nuts with washers, like millions of other manifolds. I did treat them to a smear of coppergrease as is good practice for such things.

The last manifold nuts I got were flanged copper with a slightly oval shape for locking, about 70p each from GSF IIRC.
