what about going through the insurance?  Usually less then £100 excess and it wont affect your NCB

No glass cover :( The Omega has been TPF&T the last couple of years on account of the lack of NCB on that policy.. darn.

try FG Barnes in Guildford for the screen, got tailgate window from them for a realistic price then go to Addisson Windscreens on Walnut Tree Close, Guildford to fit it, again sensible money :y

Addisson might have a screen in stock if no luck at FG Barnes :-\

Also recall a recent post about screen prices, CliffoB perhaps :-\, and iirc the numbers were alot closer to the £150-£200 mark. If you like I'll have a go at fiiting it for £50 plus materials :y

I was watching summat on telly the other day about insurance, and sometimes 3PTF is dearer then FC, as the insurers assume that someone who is 3PFT takes a lower level of cover as they dont care about their car as much and is more of a risk.

If its a while till your MOT, it might be worth shopping around or increasing your insurance cover to get FC, and therefore get windscreen cover.

FWIW, I bought a car with a broken screen, and eventually claimed on my insurance last year for a new screen - luckilly our 'Classic & Trade' policy means we have no glass excess  :)  So far, in 3-4 years, we've had 2 Cavalier screens, one DeLorean screen, one Astra Convertible screen and a screen repair on another of our Cavaliers.

Yep - the last couple of years, TPF&T was cheaper (started out with a 'we'll mirror your discount' and now have 2yrs NCB) but next renewal it looks like FC will be cheaper than TPF&T by a considerable margin.

The crack didn't grow any on the way home - perhaps I should just drive around with it like that for a while.. though I can't quite get past the feeling that it's meant to be part of the crash structure stiffness (I believe?) and with a big crack in it .. it can't be all that stiff!

The cyincs out there may well suggest that it's easier to glue the screen in than fit it properly,  and therefore cheaper ::)

It does stiffen the shell somewhat though :y

Drove it (complete with new windscreen from the other day - thanks to Al for the pointer!) to Westcott just off the A41 via lots of little windy country roads (fun!) on the way there and the A41 on the way back.

Does everyone around there drive like a complete muppet, or did I just run into more than my fair share?  :o ;D
