"Second lathe" ooh, that's just not cricket.
Well, the two will soon become one, so to speak..
The first one I picked up (on the left, in that photo) was manufactured in ~1963 and has had a hard life, there's a lot of backlash, the bed is definitely not bright & shiny anymore but it does have the screw cutting gearbox.
The second one I picked up (on the right) was manufactured in around 1949 and has had a gentle life or been very well looked after; there's minimal backlash, the bed is bright and save a few nicks right up by the headstock in great condition (and has never had a regrind) and it also has the relatively rare clutch, but it's missing the screw cutting gearbox and the motor is marked "Hoover" - I'll bet that came out of a washing machine somewhere between 1949 and now
So they both need stripping down to constituent parts and rebuilding, really, to leave me with one good lathe with clutch and screwcutting gearbox and one basic lathe I can sell on
