Replaced a dicky indicator switch, door mirror glass and a bulb whilst waiting to get tyres fitted... Service next week and might pop it through an MoT just to square it away for the year...

Had her MOT'd - PASSED :D well, after fitting a numberplate bulb that went at the test centre :-\.

Then. Went round and removed, copper slip'd and refitted all the wheel bolts to the correct torque. This was due to the (barely) trained chimp at the tyre place doing them all up with his impact gun  ::).

On a related note, do the wheel bolts suffer corrosion without those daft black plastic caps? I've left mine off as they are a pita to remove.

Why do they do that? It's happened to me several times. Always the number plate bulb. ::)

No issues with removing the wheel nut caps. They are purely cosmetic.

I got that with number plate bulbs too. Replaced them with LEDs about 3 years ago and haven't had a problem with them since.

As for the bolt caps, the only thing they do is make wheel changes fiddlier. My remaining ones went in the bin.

Ive had bulbs 'go' after checking them before leaving for the test centre.

Ive cured every bulb 'blown' by giving them a whack and then leaving the lights on and engine running and praying the loose connection doesn't reappear before mot blokey has checked it  ::) ;D

Only time I couldn't find a blown bulb (warning light on dash for blown bulb) was the Octavia.....so I just let the mot bloke check the bulbs......turned out to a blown front fog light.....so doesn't affect the MOT  :y

Interestingly the Octavia has 4 iirc correctly rear side light bulbs on each side.....3 out of the 4 bulbs can be blown....and it will still pass  :y

They do, but the nickel, or whatever, plating takes a while ot wear off. I fitted a 'never used' shiny wheel stud to my front wheel almost a year ago, and has now gone to a dull silver. I've got others which are showing surface corrosion after nearly 20 years. There's neat little bent bits of metal (Imagine a flattened letter 'C') you can get which are for removing these caps. As you say, they're a pain without such a tool.

Just keep a pair of long nose pliers in the glove box.

All wheel covers removed quicker than took to type this  :y

Removed ALL four wheels to get them sorted as I'm fed up with pumping the tyres up every day. Didn't realise what a PITA it is to get all wheels off the deck when you only have one spare.  ::)
The trolley jack gets in the way of where you need to safely support it.  ::) It's currently sat on one spare wheel and three axle stands so I hope it don't get too windy.  ;D

Having washed it in earlier in the week, I thought it was time to finish the job. So, it has had 3 coats of polish(3rd one was to finish the tub), hoovered the carpet, fed the seats, cleaned the interior vinyl and I even removed the tax disc holder. Whilst putting all the stuff away I found a half full spray of wheel cleaner. A quick squirt of that and a scrub with an old brush gave me a surprise: the wheels are silver, not black and grey! The whole car looks reasonably smart again, for the first time in months. Good for another year.
