Finished rebuilding a 1.6D VW engine for the railway, what a hateful piece of shit it is!
That'll never even pull one carriage, never mind a train.

Its in this:

So not huge and drives a hydraulic pump to operate all the functions
Poor little thing, get a coat of paint on it.  :(

Rough area? That's got more guards on the windows than a riot van!

Picked up new door lock mechanism/latch from dealer today, parted with £106, and then fitted it this evening.

Took ages, due to lack of any decent information from forums, but now I know how to do it, reckon I could do another in under 90mins.  Still not as fast as doing an Omega one, which is normally doable in well under an hour.

Once I had door card back on, I realised I'd forgot to attach the cable at the internal handle end, but soon had the card off again to resolve that.

Brings back into perspective big cat ownership, if you don't attempt to DIY.

£106 motor, took you around 2 hours? So could be £200 labour easy at a Jag dealer.

So all in all could be 300 quid bill if you were not able  :(
The parts were at cost + 10%.....  ...retail is well over £160

Its a P-way truck, tows a small trailer and allows the gangs to get to site to do simple track repairs, spot sleeper replacement, signalling work etc.

Has bench seats in it, a small boiler for hot water etc.

Plus it jacks itself up off the rails so you can turn it around to travel in the opposite direction!

Abused the Estate's load carrying ability again.  ::)  Managed to get four 3 metre long railway sleepers in it loaded from windscreen to boot area and the tailgate shut with ease.  :D
Which is making me sway towards a van as the Omega replacement as I just can't see another estate car with such a load capacity that I would dare do that to.  :)

Drove it to Nutley (past Gatwick, what a hateful stretch of road the M25/M23 interchange is!) to trade it in - managed to hit a deer on the way, too, which was exciting! Hit the brakes and missed mama deer, let of the brakes a little only to have baby deer pop out behind her, nailed them again and then promptly nailed the hind quarters of baby deer with my offside corner.

Deer did a little pirouette and leapt up the opposite bank.. fortunately no visible damage given I was all of five miles from the dealer!

Swapped one BMW for another - 645 for a 650..

Fitted a new wheel bearing assembly to the NSF and new front discs and pads both sides on the BMW in an attempt to extinguish my ABS light and braking judder.  ::)
