Looks like I can make this but wont be coming up till Saturday. Can I have some form of address/directions(I've got satnav). What time is the big event happening?

Is there anything else that is needed? I take your all ok for tools etc... what about food/drink(soft drink as I'm driving)
I'll send PM with address.  If, however, you can get a lift with anyone, that would be appreciated, as parking will be tight...

I suggest you go with the header tank trick, and someone follows you with a tow bar.  The header tank trick should get you a fair distance if not all the way, and if it doesn't you'll still get there without feeling rushed.  If I had a hitch I'd come chaperone you today.  Just be careful about the motorway, you're not supposed to use it if you know the car won't make it and not sure what the towing rules are.

A towed car is considered to be a trailer....and trailers are quite legal on the motorway.

As said above but must be on a solid bar no ropes allowed on the motorway

Good idea.  I could follow you with in my Megga with the tow rod if you like.

I imagine with a poorly car, MaxV6 would avoid motorway by coming up through Middleton Stoney/Ardley (or Bicester way), rather than risk M40...

Not strictly so.  Not wanting to be a pedant, but even on a rigid bar, the towed car needs a driver.  That driver must be licenced, insured, the car taxed and otherwise legal in all respects.  Only way out of this, is if the car is on a two wheel spec type dolly or a trailer and only then, does it become a trailer and insured etc by the towing vehicle.

If its an A frame type towing device then the need for a driver is removed but the vehicle still needs to be taxed insured and tested as all 4 wheels remain running on the roadway.

Towropes on a motorway are a no-no......

I've been following this Brackley thread with interest and would have liked to have come over myself but unfortunately have other commitments on Saturday. Sounds like it's going to be like a mini Santa Pod. 8-)
Having just spent over £460.00 on getting my miggie sorted out it's a shame it didn't happen a few weeks earlier. :'(

Anyway guys, have a good'n and hope all goes well with getting cambelts done and Omega's fixed and no doubt a few Stella's will be had later. :y :y [smiley=beer.gif]

too damn right........

guys you're all complete stars, the multiple offers of assistance are truly humbling....   as if i wasn't humbled enough already by Mark and Jaime's efforts, I must bow and doff my cap to you all....  a million thanks just for caring ....

I'm thinking that , assuming the garage doesn't fix it...  the best bet might be the cap off trick, back roads to Brackley with frequent stops, tonight , if Tunnie or anyone else  (Baz??  ) was willing to chaperone it... and give me a lift home again...  Obviously all fuel costs etc at my expense...
then the car is at jaime's first thing, nice and cool for strip down..... and I could either get a lift over , or come in the pug early on saturday,
along with my lad and the Animal protein for the BBQ.

if on the other hand, it's fixed, then hoorah....   and we can go back to plan A.

I'm truly sorry for all this kerfuffle chaps....

You'll need a lift over on Saturday morning so you can drive back in the fixed Omega on Saturday night!

I could pick both yourself and cornishtaz up on the way through if parking's going to be tight.

That would be ideal if you could all come together if required.  I live in a small cul-de-sac, and many of the residents are too lazy to park on their drives  >:( (most drives are single width, so many park one car on drive, and other on road)

As mentioned, I cannot make it this time. So I can help in other ways....

Laidback is bringing my jack and stands in case they are needed and I am donating a new box of latex gloves so you guys can keep a bit cleaner. Not much, but Tescos.(Every little helps....!)
