Across both Omegas and 150k between them, only ever replaced steering idler once on the 2.2.

Never had any issues at MOT time

Took the 3.0 MV6 in for its MOT yesterday, no problems other than a bit of play in the steering idler which has failed after 7000 miles.Thought Febi products were of reasonable quality..or may be not :-\
TBH, for the idler, go GM only now. It hurts paying nearly £70 for it, but all the patterns are useless now.  I'm impressed you managed 7000 miles out of a Febi one, unless its been failed for a while and you haven't checked it or noticed through driving.

Or the MOT tester is mistaking the natural movement for the idler to work as wear.
Well, yes, of course that is a problem as well. But in reality, there should be virtually no vertical movement in it. TBE's newish Lemforder had nearly an inch of vertical, no wonder she was complaining of it being "a bit imprecise"

TBE's original lasted until the garage incident, when, if you recall, a lot of the bushings at the front got too warm. Its had 2 Lemforders since then, and failed MOT in September on it. Its back on GM now.

The Bullet's original lasted ages as well, before going through a succession of brands, including Autovaux's idea of "Genuine" (which lasted about a year) and Lemforder.  I think the Lemforders used to be a usable replacement, but seems quality has dropped off in recent years...  ...or ECP selling fakes again  :-X

Hence, because they can occasionally be a bugger to change, I can now only recommend GM, from a dealer only.

Spoke to Serek, and will get it sorted one way or the other, will bear in mind all your comments and will have look see when the old idler comes off. Worry No2 is that all three cars have the same make idlers,so I guess it's just a matter of wait and see on the other two as they are both due their MOT's in January. :-\

The MOT's are done at my boy's place and I did ask the tester if it was an advisory/fail, and he just said that he was just pointing it out and that I might want to get it fixed at the earliest opportunity and left it at that. ;)

MOT time for mine this morning. Passed with just one advisory - chip in windscreen.  :)

Isn't that the truth.

There should be virtually zero vertical movement in the idler. If there is, it's worn, thus shagged

Abandoned it in order to drive a nice 335d north...

600 miles plus change on one tank and no delays.

I had forgotten how pretty the Highlands are, especially with a dusting of snow... Would make a nice Roadtrip under any other circumstances  :'(

Hope it goes as well as you can hope for, despite whatever history existed. Nice to give a good send off.

Thoughts are with you.

I would echo that. Been through it with my Dad a couple of years ago, and whatever the history, it isn't easy. :y

I may post some pics tomorrow, just for fun. Meanwhile I Am concerned about rats cats dogs finding their way into the car during the night.   :D
The vacuum pump, which resides under the rear seat, was in danger of falling out onto the road.  ;D
