It can only go to the compressor or the bulkhead. Unfortunately for you, the bulkhead means buried at the back of the 246 head :-\

Looks like it follows a somewhat convoluted path to the compressor, and if memory serves .. it is attached to the other pipe at the compressor by a large alloy block that forms the seal ... so probably beyond my capabilities ...  :(
As I'm naturally distrusting of the vast majority of A/C "specialists", I'd give Serek a call, and have a nice day out in Huntingdon

That's not a bad idea at all .. IF he can get hold of the bits ... and I could have the lambdas moved at the same time .....  hhhhhh :y :y

Yup .. he's the one who pressure tested it, declared it good, filled it.. and it all leaked out over 2 months ... :(  Seems he only pressure checks to 5 bar.. the system can get up to 15 bar when working I'm now told, so his check wasn't really enough .....

He also said he was not willing to do any mechanical work on an omega as it comes under the heading "too bloody difficult" ....   :(

Spooky Nige, my 3.2 has what sounds like the same failure, and the guy we are talking about identified the pipe, which sounds like the same one. He was actually doing jobs under contract for Skurrays Now VX at the time! Perhaps we should both go to Sereks, and get a job lot ;D

Its been a while since I did one but I recall that the large flange you talk of is not even connected to the pipes, it simple slides over them and acts as a clamp, so worth a double check

If my memory serves - the clamp is held in place by a single torx screw, in the centre, between the pipes.

Two pipes, different sizes, both have flanges on them, the seals "butt" up against the inside edge of the flange, the flanges are then pulled tight onto the filter/dryer by a large block that pulls on the outer edges of the flanges by a single bolt through the whole caboodle. The larger flange is cracked 80% of the way round now and simply will not pull the seal in tight enough.

Got filthy painting the bottom of the engine with gunk then scrubbing and rinsing it off to aid this oil leak identification

If you take the sill covers off you may well find they are rotten as a pear. Buy a MIG welder and get stuck in. Ive just done it, and its not that hard.  ;)
