I didn't know about that and I've just been out and had a look.

About 4 or 5 inches in there's what looks like a venetian blind that's closed.  I started the engine but it didn't open. 

I'll have another look tomorrow when I go out in it. Maybe it opens when it's moving? 

They normally open when the engine reaches running temperature but can adapt depending on driving style, unless the motor is kaput, the fuse has blown or the AGS has been coded out. As you say, you have Venetian blinds, the G30 has rotating grill uprights like Vertical Blinds and some have what appears to be a roller blind going up behind the grill, but is actually just a rotating flap. The type of active grill shutter depends on the model.

Those 'blinds' are for aero efficiency, makes quite a lot of difference!

Not really ‘done today’, but over the last two weeks, pre-MOT checks.  Bulbs, wipers, shocks, tyres and so on.

Rear wheels off. Looked for grot. Found a little 50p sized hole where a drain grommet must have got blocked. Repaired with a new piece of galvanised steel. Plenty of Stonechip.

Brake lines cleaned and re-coated. Exposed handbrake cables cleaned and greased. Holds on my steep drive at 7-8 clicks, so hoping…

Front wheels off. Small amount of surface rust scraped and brushed back on the sump front edge and cross-member then Kurust and several coats of Stonechip.

Sills, pretty good for saying, but wire brushed, Kurust and Stonechip.

Was going to do an oil & filter change but it looks lovely and golden and only 1100 miles old.

One slight issue - noticed a tiny drip, maybe once every couple of days. Caught it in a plastic tray and it’s almost luminous greeny-yellow. Climbed back under and I can see something is weeping around the bottom of the a/c compressor. Yet another job, but it can wait.

I believe the amount of clicks is less relevant than having reserve handbrake travel to pass the MOT. So if your handbrake stops the rollers on 7-8 clicks, providing that there is the capability for the handbrake to travel further, you should be fine.

Changed the offending front wheel bearing so the car is nice and quiet again.    I purchased the complete bearing and hub assembly to minimise any faffing about, as the ABS encoder ring sits inside this unit.

Oil change on the Merc and Corsa c,
Checking out a rear clunk on the merc too revealed a broken top mount, so new pair ordered.
Corsa C sump drain will need some work next time, not very grippy anymore, even with a new sump plug.

More what the car did. Odometer reached 137k today. Still running well. Might still see me out.

One top mount  (the broken one) swapped out.
Revealed no push back at all in the shocks...so time to order those too.
still have a droplink'y clunk, was obviously 2 separate noises.
shall order those too, and if not those must be one of the weird shaped rods.  seems far too many bits on these!

Fitted a new (to me) door mirror as the folding mechanism had given up the ghost. Normal service has resumed! 

It took 12 days to get here from Essex though!    Posted on Monday 12th, disappeared into the bowels of Inpost's Yeovil depot on Wednesday 14th and finally appeared on my doorstep sometime yesterday.  Apparently they had a shortage of drivers.

Fitted a new (to me) door mirror as the folding mechanism had given up the ghost. Normal service has resumed! 

It took 12 days to get here from Essex though!    Posted on Monday 12th, disappeared into the bowels of Inpost's Yeovil depot on Wednesday 14th and finally appeared on my doorstep sometime yesterday.  Apparently they had a shortage of drivers. 

DPD must be having some delivery problems as well, as we’ve seen three of their EV vans stranded at roundabouts, traffic lights and a junction in as many weeks. All three had hazard lights running from the 12V Auxiliary battery so we assume the main drive battery had died.

Cleaned the inside of TPC, and finally got around to replacing the bonnet cables and the ducting in front of the radiator. It was made of the finest German recycled rubber so after 20 years or so, most of it had dissolved into a grungy, flakey mess.

Also found a potential winter beater... Petrol, manual, ULEZable. It will be The Trolley 2 in honour of my last A Class

Waved the Galaxy off to the finance company on Fri, with no additional liability coming my way.

Booked a Camry through Avis to go exploring around West Texas for the two days I am here. Go to the space next to my name on the screen only to find the biggest Camry I have ever seen

In their infinite wisdom, they had given me a GMC Sierra 2500 double cab 4x4 pickemuptruck.

Drives nicely enough unless you need to turn whilst going over a bump with a touch of throttle, turning right at a light for example... At which point, it just lights up the rear wheels and sits there 

Managed 23 Freedom MPGs, which is about 27 imperial ones and considerably more than TPC

Biggest issue driving it is that because the bonnet is flat all the way to corners it feels wider than it is and by virtue of having a rear axle that the Egyptians would have been proud of, it's quite fidgety on less than perfect surfaces.
